Ferencvarosi TC produced a ruthless attacking display to thrash MTK Budapest 5-0 in the Hungary Fizz Liga on 26 October 2026, with Barnabás Varga leading the charge in a one-sided contest at the Groupama Arena. Ferencvaros were quicker, sharper, and far more clinical, turning home advantage into a statement victory.

Match overview

Ferencvaros started on the front foot and never really let MTK settle. Their high press forced turnovers in dangerous areas, and their wide players stretched the visiting defence at every opportunity. The opening goal arrived early, and from that point the match followed a predictable pattern: Ferencvaros attacked in waves, while MTK struggled to keep possession and relieve pressure.

By half-time the game was already under control. Ferencvaros added further goals after the break as MTK’s resistance faded, and the closing stages became a matter of how many the hosts would score. The clean sheet added to the satisfaction, with Ferencvaros managing the game professionally while still pushing for more goals.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Barnabás Varga opened the scoring with a close-range finish after a low cross from the right.
• 38th minute: Kady doubled the lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.
• 52nd minute: Varga grabbed his second, heading in from a corner.
• 71st minute: Kristoffer Zachariassen made it four with a composed finish after a quick passing move.
• 84th minute: Gruber completed the scoring, converting a rebound after MTK’s goalkeeper had made the initial save.

Tactical story

Ferencvaros’ dominance was built on aggressive pressing and quick ball circulation. They won possession high up the pitch, attacked the space behind MTK’s full-backs, and delivered a steady stream of crosses into the box. The midfield trio controlled the centre, allowing the front players to focus on movement and finishing.

MTK tried to defend in a compact block, but they were pulled apart by Ferencvaros’ width and rotations. Once the first goal went in, MTK’s shape became more stretched, and the hosts exploited the gaps ruthlessly. Ferencvaros also controlled the transition moments, preventing MTK from finding any rhythm on the counter.

Standout players

Barnabás Varga was the headline performer with two goals and relentless movement in the box. Kady and Kristoffer Zachariassen were influential in linking midfield and attack, while Ferencvaros’ full-backs provided constant width. MTK’s goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, but the visitors had few standout performances on a chastening night.

What the result means

The win sends a clear message about Ferencvaros’ title credentials and strengthens their position at the top end of the Fizz Liga table. Their attacking depth and ability to dominate games at home will be crucial as the season progresses. For MTK Budapest, the defeat is a painful lesson in the demands of facing the league’s strongest side; they must regroup quickly and find a way to be more compact and competitive in their next fixture.
