MTK Budapest delivered a ruthless away performance in the Hungary Cup, defeating Monori SE 5-1 on 28 October 2026. The scoreline underlined the gap in quality between the sides, but it was the manner of the victory that stood out: MTK pressed high, moved the ball quickly and punished Monori with a stream of chances in the final third.

A one-sided cup tie from the start

Monori SE came into the match with the energy of a host side eager to make the most of a cup occasion, but MTK Budapest quickly took control of the tempo. The visitors dominated possession in the opening exchanges and looked dangerous whenever they attacked the space behind Monori’s defensive line. Once the first goal arrived, the tie began to tilt firmly in MTK’s favour.

Monori did not collapse immediately. The home side found a response and briefly made the scoreline uncomfortable, but MTK’s superior quality in transition and their clinical finishing proved decisive. By the time the second half unfolded, the visitors were able to manage the game with confidence and add further goals.

Key moments that shaped the 5-1 scoreline

• Early breakthrough: MTK opened the scoring after a sustained spell of pressure, setting the tone for a dominant cup display.
• Monori’s brief response: The home side pulled a goal back and gave their supporters something to cheer, but the momentum did not last.
• Second-half surge: MTK pulled away after the break, turning a competitive cup tie into a convincing victory.
• Late finish: The fifth goal completed a statement result and reflected MTK’s control over the closing stages.

Tactical story: pressure, width and quick transitions

MTK Budapest’s performance was built on aggressive pressing and quick ball circulation. Their wide players stretched Monori’s back line, while the midfielders repeatedly arrived in support to create overloads. Whenever Monori tried to play out from the back, MTK were ready to counter-press and force errors in dangerous areas.

Monori SE deserve credit for continuing to compete and for producing a goal of their own, but the home side struggled to cope with MTK’s speed of movement. The visitors’ ability to switch play and attack through multiple channels made them difficult to contain, and the scoreline reflected that superiority over the course of the match.

Standout performers and what the result means

MTK’s attacking unit will take the headlines after a five-goal display, but the foundation was laid by a disciplined midfield and a defence that limited Monori’s clearest chances. The result gives MTK Budapest momentum in the Hungary Cup and reinforces their credentials as a side capable of going deep in the competition.

For Monori SE, the defeat ends their cup run on a difficult night, though the experience of hosting a club of MTK’s stature remains a notable occasion for the team and its supporters. MTK, meanwhile, move forward with confidence and a place in the next stage of the Hungary Cup.
