The Liga de Ascenso is a competition where away wins are worth their weight in gold, and CD FAS San Lorenzo's performance in Tegucigalpa was exactly the kind of resilient, high-tempo display that separates genuine promotion contenders from the rest of the pack. Five goals, a string of momentum swings and a dramatic finish made this one of the most entertaining fixtures of the round.

How the Match Unfolded

CD FAS San Lorenzo started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead in the 12th minute when Kevin Mejía found space at the edge of the area and drove a low shot inside the near post. It was a sharp, confident finish from a player who has been central to the club's attacking play this season.

Real Tegus responded impressively. Urged on by their home support, they began to win the midfield battle and equalised in the 28th minute through Wilmer Cruz, who timed his run perfectly to meet a cross from the left and steer the ball past the goalkeeper. Parity lasted until first-half stoppage time, when Mejía struck again, converting after a corner was only half-cleared — a goal that hurt the home side badly given the timing.

To Real Tegus's credit, they came out for the second half with real intent. Their pressure was rewarded in the 63rd minute when Jorge Núñez pounced on a defensive mistake and fired home to make it 2-2, sending the home crowd into full voice. For twenty minutes, the momentum was entirely with the hosts, and a third goal looked likely.

It never came. Instead, CD FAS San Lorenzo rode out the storm, made a couple of tactical substitutions to shore up the midfield, and struck the decisive blow in the 85th minute. Óscar Lanza, introduced from the bench earlier in the half, attacked the near post at a free-kick and turned the ball home to make it 3-2 and silence the stadium.

Tactical Story

CD FAS San Lorenzo set up to attack quickly, using their wide players to stretch the Real Tegus back line and delivering early crosses into the area. That approach produced two of their three goals, with the set-piece routine for the winner a clear sign of a well-drilled side.

Real Tegus, meanwhile, were at their best when they pressed higher up the pitch and forced turnovers in the middle third. Their equaliser came from exactly that kind of situation, and their best spell of the match came after the interval when they committed extra bodies forward. The risk, of course, was leaving space behind — and that is precisely where the game was lost.

Standout Players

Kevin Mejía was the outstanding individual on the pitch, scoring twice and consistently finding room between the lines. His first goal set the tone, and his second was a reward for intelligent positioning in the box.

Óscar Lanza deserves special mention for a decisive contribution off the bench. Impact substitutes win matches in the Ascenso Division, and his header was the difference between one point and three. For Real Tegus, Jorge Núñez was the driving force, combining energy in midfield with a well-taken goal, while Wilmer Cruz showed the kind of attacking instincts the side will need more of in the coming weeks.

Season Impact

In the Honduras Ascenso Division, where the promotion race is decided by fine margins across a gruelling campaign, road wins against direct rivals are the currency of a successful season. C
