Palestino FC Choloma 1-0 Deportes Savio — Palestino FC Choloma edged Deportes Savio 1-0 in Honduras Ascenso Division action on October 4, 2026, at the Estadio Municipal de Choloma. A single second-half goal from Roberto Flores settled a tense, competitive encounter and sent the home supporters home happy.

Match Overview

Both sides came into the match knowing that points in the Ascenso Division are precious, and the first half reflected that caution. Chances were limited, tackles were firm, and the midfield became a battleground. Deportes Savio sat deep and looked to frustrate the hosts, while Palestino FC Choloma probed patiently for an opening.

The game turned in the 55th minute when Flores found space at the back post and converted a well-worked move. From there, Palestino managed the game expertly, dropping deeper to protect their lead while still threatening on the counter. Savio pushed bodies forward late on, but a combination of resolute defending and excellent goalkeeping kept them at bay.

Key Moments

• 22nd minute: Palestino's first clear chance came from a corner, but the header was cleared off the line.
• 41st minute: Deportes Savio's best opportunity of the first half fell to Juan Castillo, who dragged his shot wide from the edge of the box.
• 55th minute: The breakthrough. Roberto Flores arrived late in the area to meet a low cross and side-footed the ball into the net.
• 70th minute: Savio were awarded a penalty, but the spot-kick was saved brilliantly by Mario Hernández, who guessed correctly and parried the ball away.
• 85th minute: Palestino nearly doubled their lead on the break, only for the final shot to hit the side netting.

Tactical Story

Palestino FC Choloma lined up with an attacking 4-3-3, looking to use width and get crosses into the box. Deportes Savio responded with a compact 5-4-1 out of possession, making it difficult for the hosts to find central gaps. For much of the first half, Palestino were forced to circulate the ball sideways, searching for an opening that rarely came.

The tactical key was Palestino's decision to push their right-back higher after the break. That overload created the crossing opportunity for the only goal. Savio then had to change their approach, bringing on extra attackers, and they won a penalty as the game opened up. But Hernández's save proved decisive. Palestino's midfield trio then controlled the closing stages, slowing the tempo and limiting Savio to hopeful long balls.

Standout Players

Roberto Flores was the hero for Palestino FC Choloma, timing his run perfectly to score the winner. His movement in the box was sharp all afternoon. Goalkeeper Mario Hernández was equally important, producing a crucial penalty save and commanding his area with confidence. Defender Carlos Álvarez also stood out with several important clearances.

For Deportes Savio, Juan Castillo was lively in attack and won the penalty, but he will be disappointed not to have scored from open play. Midfielder Oscar Reyes battled hard in the centre, while the goalkeeper made a few smart stops to keep the score down. In the end, Savio were left to rue missed chances and the saved spot-kick.

Season Impact

The victory strengthens Palestino FC Choloma's position in the upper reaches of the Honduras Ascenso Division table. Winning tight home matches is essential for any promotion push, and this performance showed a good balance of attacking intent and defensive discipline. The three points also build momentum ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

Deportes Savio remain outside the playoff places but showed enough to suggest they can climb with better finishing. The penalty miss will hurt, but the overall display had positives, particularly their organisation and resilience. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round, with Palestino looking to build on this win and Savio eager to bounce back quickly.
