INFOP FC claimed a 2-1 victory over CD Cedeño in the Honduras Ascenso Division on October 4, 2026, thanks to goals from José Rodríguez and Marvin Cruz. The home side had to withstand a nervy finale after Carlos Mejía pulled one back for the visitors, but they held on for a crucial three points.

Match Overview

INFOP FC began the match with intent, pressing high and forcing CD Cedeño into early mistakes. The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when José Rodríguez received the ball on the edge of the area, took a touch to create space, and fired a low shot past the goalkeeper. The home side continued to dictate terms and doubled their lead in the 72nd minute through Marvin Cruz, who timed his run perfectly to meet a cross from the left and headed into the bottom corner.

CD Cedeño, who had been second-best for much of the afternoon, halved the deficit in the 88th minute when Carlos Mejía scored from close range after a scramble in the box. That goal set up a tense finish, with Cedeño throwing bodies forward in search of an equalizer. INFOP FC defended with urgency and cleared a series of late crosses to secure the win.

Key Moments

• 15' — José Rodríguez opens the scoring with a well-placed low drive.
• 41' — CD Cedeño's first meaningful shot is saved comfortably by the INFOP goalkeeper.
• 72' — Marvin Cruz heads home a cross to make it 2-0.
• 88' — Carlos Mejía pulls a goal back for CD Cedeño.
• 90+3' — INFOP FC clear a dangerous free-kick to preserve the victory.

Tactical Story

INFOP FC set up in a 4-3-3 that emphasized width and quick ball circulation. Their midfield trio controlled the center of the pitch, allowing the wingers to isolate their markers and deliver early crosses. The first goal came from a central overload, while the second was a textbook wide combination. CD Cedeño struggled to cope with INFOP's movement in the final third and often left gaps between their center-backs and full-backs.

After Cruz's goal, INFOP FC appeared content to protect their lead, dropping their defensive line and inviting pressure. That decision nearly backfired when Mejía scored, but the home side's experience showed in the final minutes. Cedeño will feel they left it too late to take the initiative, having only truly threatened once they switched to a more direct approach.

Standout Players

José Rodríguez was a constant threat with his dribbling and shooting, and his opening goal set the tone for the match. Marvin Cruz's intelligent movement in the box earned him the decisive second goal, while INFOP captain Luis Palacios organized the defense well under late pressure. For CD Cedeño, Carlos Mejía took his goal well and was the visitors' most dangerous player, but he received limited service for much of the game.

Table and Season Impact

The win moves INFOP FC up the Honduras Ascenso Division table and keeps them firmly in the promotion conversation. CD Cedeño, meanwhile, missed an opportunity to climb the standings and will need to improve their away form if they are to challenge for a top spot. For INFOP, the performance was a reminder of their attacking potential, though the late concession will give the coaching staff something to address on the training ground.
