ZNK Donat Zadar Women 4-1 HNK Gorica W — ZNK Donat Zadar Women produced a commanding home performance in the Croatian Women's First League on Sunday night, defeating HNK Gorica W 4-1 and turning a tight opening hour into a convincing three-point result.

Match overview

Played under the lights on 18 October 2026, the contest was decided by Donat Zadar's sharper pressing and superior movement in the final third. The hosts opened with intent, pinned Gorica deep and created the first clear chance inside the opening ten minutes. Once the breakthrough arrived, Zadar never looked like surrendering control.

Donat Zadar lined up in a 4-3-3 designed to squeeze Gorica's build-up, with the midfield trio stepping high and the wide forwards cutting inside to support the central striker. Gorica's 4-2-3-1 struggled to find clean passing lanes through the middle, and their best moments came from direct counter-attacks rather than sustained possession.

Key moments

• 14' — Ana Kovačić opened the scoring with a low finish after a turnover high up the pitch.
• 32' — Marta Jurić doubled the lead, arriving late to convert a cut-back from the right.
• 58' — Kovačić grabbed her second, finishing confidently after a quick exchange on the edge of the box.
• 76' — Lucija Barišić made it 4-0 with a header from a corner.
• 84' — Ivana Novak pulled one back for Gorica with a well-struck consolation.

Tactical story

The match followed a clear pattern: Donat Zadar won the ball back quickly and attacked before Gorica could reset. Their midfield pressure forced hurried clearances, and the front three repeatedly isolated Gorica's full-backs. Zadar's goalkeeper, Petra Šimić, was rarely troubled but made two important saves at 1-0 and 2-0 to preserve the hosts' momentum.

Gorica improved after the break and found more space in wide areas, but their final ball lacked precision until Novak's late strike. By then, the game had already slipped away. Zadar's ability to turn defensive transitions into goals was the defining difference between the sides.

Standout players

Ana Kovačić was the clear attacking focal point, scoring twice and constantly dragging defenders out of position. Marta Jurić controlled the tempo in midfield, while Lucija Barišić's set-piece threat gave Zadar another dimension. For Gorica, Novak's late goal was a small reward for a difficult evening, and their goalkeeper made several saves that kept the scoreline from becoming heavier.

Season impact

The win gives Donat Zadar a valuable boost in the Croatian Women's First League standings and reinforces their home form. For Gorica, the defeat is a reminder of the gap to the division's stronger sides, though the late goal offers something to build on ahead of their next fixture.
