Xiangtan Team came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Yongzhou Team in the Hunan Football League on Sunday evening at the Xiangtan Sports Centre. A late winner sent the home crowd into raptures and extended Xiangtan's unbeaten run to four matches.

Match Overview

Yongzhou started brightly and took a surprise lead in the 22nd minute when Li Ming found space on the edge of the box and fired a low shot into the corner. Xiangtan responded well, controlling possession and creating several chances before equalising in first-half stoppage time through a converted penalty by Zhou Peng. The second half was a tense affair, with both sides pushing for a winner. That moment arrived in the 81st minute when substitute Wu Lei poked home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Key Moments

• 22nd minute: Li Ming gives Yongzhou the lead with a precise finish from 18 yards.
• 45+2 minutes: Zhou Peng converts a penalty after a foul on Xiangtan's winger.
• 67th minute: Yongzhou nearly retake the lead, but a header rattles the crossbar.
• 81st minute: Wu Lei scores the winner, reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box.
• 90+3 minutes: Xiangtan goalkeeper makes a sharp save to preserve the three points.

Tactical Story

Xiangtan deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, looking to dominate the ball and stretch Yongzhou with wide play. Yongzhou, meanwhile, set up to counter-attack and were rewarded with the opening goal. After the equaliser, Xiangtan upped the tempo, pushing their full-backs higher and overloading the midfield. Yongzhou defended resiliently but were eventually undone by a moment of penalty-box chaos. The hosts' use of substitutes proved decisive, with Wu Lei's fresh legs causing problems for a tiring Yongzhou defence.

Standout Players

Zhou Peng was instrumental for Xiangtan, not only for his composed penalty but for his creativity throughout. Wu Lei made an immediate impact off the bench, scoring the winner and adding energy in the final third. For Yongzhou, Li Ming was their best player, taking his goal well and linking play effectively. Defender Chen Long also impressed with several crucial interceptions before succumbing to fatigue late on.

League Table Impact

The win keeps Xiangtan Team firmly in the hunt for a high finish in the Hunan Football League, while Yongzhou remain in a mid-table position, ruing a missed opportunity to climb further. The three points are especially important for Xiangtan's momentum, as they continue to build a reputation for fighting back in tight games. Yongzhou will need to address their inability to hold onto leads if they are to challenge for the top spots.

Next up, Xiangtan face a tough away trip, while Yongzhou return home looking to bounce back. On this evidence, both teams will remain competitive, but it is Xiangtan who will take the greater confidence from this encounter.
