Hengyang Team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Yiyang Team in the Hunan Football League on September 19, 2026, with a disciplined second-half performance at Hengyang Sports Centre. The only goal of the game arrived just after the hour mark, and it proved enough to separate two sides that had largely cancelled each other out for long spells.

Match overview

Kick-off came at 19:38 local time, and the contest quickly settled into a tactical battle. Hengyang set up in a compact 4-2-3-1, looking to protect the central corridor and spring forward through the wide areas. Yiyang enjoyed more possession in the first half, moving the ball patiently from side to side, but they struggled to turn that control into clear chances.

The decisive moment arrived in the 63rd minute. A corner from the right was whipped toward the near post, and Hengyang captain Liu Zihao rose above his marker to glance a header into the far corner. The goal lifted the home crowd and forced Yiyang to take more risks, but Hengyang's back line held firm through a tense final period.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Yiyang created the first meaningful opening, with a low drive from the edge of the box forcing a smart save from the Hengyang goalkeeper.
• 63rd minute: Hengyang broke the deadlock through Liu Zihao's header from a right-sided corner.
• 79th minute: Yiyang won a free-kick in a dangerous position, but the resulting effort curled narrowly over the crossbar.
• 90+4 minutes: Hengyang cleared a late long throw into the box and saw out the final seconds to claim all three points.

Tactical story

Hengyang's game plan was built on defensive discipline and quick transitions. The midfield duo sat deep, denying Yiyang space between the lines, while the full-backs were cautious about pushing too high. That approach limited Hengyang's attacking fluency at times, but it also kept the match on their terms.

Yiyang, by contrast, saw plenty of the ball without finding a cutting edge. Their best moments came when they switched play quickly and attacked the channels, but too often the final pass was delayed or overhit. Once Hengyang scored, Yiyang's shape stretched, and the home side were able to defend their lead with a series of well-timed clearances.

Standout players

Liu Zihao was the obvious match-winner, not only for his goal but also for his leadership in the middle of the park. He won several important duels and helped Hengyang slow the tempo when Yiyang threatened to build momentum. The Hengyang goalkeeper also deserved credit for a composed display, including a crucial first-half save and a late punch under pressure.

For Yiyang, the central midfielder who dictated much of the build-up was their most influential player. He kept the ball moving and tried to unlock the defence with angled passes, but he lacked support in the final third. Their striker worked hard against two physical centre-backs but was limited to half-chances.

Season impact

The win gives Hengyang an important boost in the Hunan Football League standings, strengthening their position in the upper half of the table and extending their strong home form. For Yiyang, it is a frustrating result: they will feel they had enough possession to take something from the game but were undone by one set-piece moment and a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal.

With the season moving into a crucial phase, Hengyang will hope this narrow win becomes a platform for consistency, while Yiyang must convert their territorial control into points before the gap to the leading clubs grows wider.
