CSD Municipal claimed a 3-1 victory over arch-rivals C.S.D. Comunicaciones in the Guatemala Liga Nacional on 29 October 2026, delivering a performance that combined early intensity, tactical discipline and a clinical finishing touch in the Clásico Chapín. The three points strengthen Municipal’s position in the league standings and give the Rojos an important psychological edge in one of Central America’s most closely followed derbies.

Municipal set the tone in the Clásico Chapín

Played at the Estadio Manuel Felipe Carrera, the match carried the usual tension of a Municipal–Comunicaciones encounter. Municipal started with purpose, pressing high and forcing Comunicaciones into hurried clearances. The home side’s attacking rotations caused problems down the flanks, and their early pressure was rewarded when they opened the scoring after a well-worked move into the penalty area.

Comunicaciones responded with composure rather than panic. The Cremas gradually found space in midfield and equalised before half-time, briefly silencing the home support. But Municipal’s reaction was swift. A second goal before the interval restored the hosts’ advantage and changed the mood of the contest, forcing Comunicaciones to chase the game after the break.

Key moments that decided the result

• Early breakthrough: Municipal’s high press created the opening goal, with a low finish from inside the box setting the tone for the afternoon.
• Comunicaciones equaliser: The visitors found a way back into the match through a composed attacking sequence, drawing level and briefly gaining momentum.
• Municipal regain control: A goal just before half-time proved decisive, allowing the Rojos to go into the break with the lead and a clearer tactical plan.
• Late sealing goal: Municipal added a third in the second half, finishing off a counter-attack and removing any realistic hope of a Comunicaciones comeback.

Tactical story: pressure, width and transitions

Municipal’s approach was built on aggressive pressing and quick switches of play. The home side tried to pin Comunicaciones deep, winning possession in advanced areas and attacking the spaces behind the full-backs. Their wide players stretched the defence, while the midfield unit stayed compact enough to prevent easy counter-attacks through the centre.

Comunicaciones enjoyed spells of possession and looked most dangerous when moving the ball quickly through midfield. However, the Cremas struggled to sustain pressure after equalising. Municipal’s ability to win second balls and transition from defence to attack proved the difference, especially in the period around half-time when the match was still finely balanced.

Standout performers and match impact

Municipal’s attacking line deserved credit for turning promising moments into goals, but the foundation was laid by a disciplined midfield display and a defence that stood firm when Comunicaciones pushed forward in the second half. The home goalkeeper dealt with crosses and set pieces confidently, while the back line limited clear chances after the restart.

For Comunicaciones, the goalkeeper kept the score respectable with several saves, and the midfield showed flashes of quality in possession. Still, the visitors lacked the final pass in the closing stages and were punished by Municipal’s sharper finishing.

The result adds three valuable points to Municipal’s Liga Nacional campaign and improves their standing in the table. Beyond the numbers, a Clásico Chapín win carries extra weight: it boosts confidence, strengthens head-to-head momentum and gives the Rojos bragging rights in a rivalry that matters deeply to both sets of supporters. For Comunicaciones, the focus now shifts to regrouping defensively and finding greater consistency in the final third as the league season continues.
