Guatemala City, Guatemala — Guastatoya pulled off a memorable 2-1 away victory over C.S.D. Comunicaciones in the Guatemala Liga Nacional on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores. The visitors overturned an early deficit with two second-half goals, handing Comunicaciones a frustrating home defeat in one of Guatemalan football’s most historic venues.

Comunicaciones vs Guastatoya: Match Overview

C.S.D. Comunicaciones, known as Los Cremas, started brightly and controlled the opening stages. Their midfield circulation created overloads on the flanks, and the home crowd expected a comfortable afternoon. The early pressure paid off when Comunicaciones took the lead, but Guastatoya responded with resilience and tactical discipline.

Rather than chasing the game recklessly, Guastatoya defended in a compact block and waited for counterattacking opportunities. The visitors grew more confident as the match wore on, and once they equalized, the momentum shifted decisively. Comunicaciones pushed forward in search of a winner, but Guastatoya found the decisive goal in the second half and then held on through a tense finish.

Key Moments: Guastatoya’s Comeback

• 18th minute — Comunicaciones 1-0: Antonio López gave Los Cremas the lead with a powerful header from a corner. Comunicaciones’ early pressure was rewarded, and the stadium erupted as the home side took control.
• 42nd minute — Guastatoya 1-1: Carlos Mejía leveled the score on the counter. After a quick turnover in midfield, Mejía received the ball on the right, cut inside, and placed a low shot into the far corner. The goal stunned the home crowd and gave Guastatoya belief.
• 58th minute — Comunicaciones pressure: Los Cremas nearly restored their lead when a close-range effort struck the post. Guastatoya’s goalkeeper then made a sharp save from the follow-up, keeping the score level during Comunicaciones’ best spell.
• 78th minute — Guastatoya 2-1: Óscar Solórzano scored the winner with a composed finish from the edge of the box. A short corner caught Comunicaciones’ defense out of shape, and Solórzano curled the ball beyond the goalkeeper to complete the comeback.

Tactical Story: Guastatoya’s Counter and Comunicaciones’ Wastefulness

Comunicaciones dominated possession for long stretches, finishing with a clear edge in shots and corners. Their midfield trio kept Guastatoya pinned back, and the full-backs pushed high to support the attack. However, Los Cremas struggled to break down a well-organized defensive block. Their crosses were often cleared, and their shots from distance rarely troubled the goalkeeper.

Guastatoya’s game plan was built on patience and speed in transition. The visitors conceded the ball in safe areas and then attacked through the channels, targeting the space left behind Comunicaciones’ advanced full-backs. Mejía’s equalizer and Solórzano’s winner both came from quick, direct moves. Defensively, Guastatoya’s center-backs held their line well, and their goalkeeper delivered a man-of-the-match performance with several important saves.

Standout Players: Mejía, Solórzano, and the Guastatoya Goalkeeper

Carlos Mejía was the spark for Guastatoya, scoring the equalizer and constantly threatening on the break. His movement off the ball created space for his teammates, and his composure in front of goal changed the match. Óscar Solórzano will be remembered for the winning goal, a precise finish that capped a brave away performance.

In goal, Guastatoya’s goalkeeper produced a string of saves, including a critical stop just before the hour mark. For Comunicaciones, Antonio López was the brightest attacking player, scoring the opener and winning aerial duels. But Los Cremas lacked a finishing touch in the final 20 minutes, and that inefficiency proved costly.

Liga Nacional Table and Season Impact

The result gives Guastatoya a significant boost in the Guatemala Liga Nacional standings, moving them closer to the playoff positions and strengthening their reputation as a dangerous away side. For C.S.D. Comunicaciones, the home defeat is a setback in the title race, especially with other contenders expected to collect points. Comunicaciones remains one of the league’s strongest squads, but consistency at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores will be crucial if they are to challenge for another championship.

Guastatoya’s victory also highlights the competitive depth of the Liga Nacional, where away teams can punish any club that fails to convert possession into goals. The three points could prove vital when the season reaches its decisive phase.
