C.S.D. Comunicaciones claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Antigua GFC in the Guatemala Liga Nacional, using a single second-half goal and a disciplined defensive performance to take all three points. In a match that promised attacking intent from both sides, the decisive moment arrived after the break, and Comunicaciones did enough to protect the advantage in front of their home support.

Match Overview

The game developed into a tense, tactical contest rather than an open exchange of chances. Antigua GFC saw more of the ball for long spells, patiently building from the back and looking to create overloads in wide areas, but Comunicaciones stayed compact and refused to be stretched. The home side’s midfield screened the back four effectively, forcing Antigua into speculative crosses and long-range efforts that rarely troubled the goalkeeper.

Comunicaciones, by contrast, were more direct when they won possession. Their front players worked hard to press the Antigua defenders, and that pressure eventually produced the breakthrough. Once ahead, the Cremas dropped slightly deeper, managed the tempo of the game, and relied on strong game management to see out the result.

Key Moments

• An early save from the Comunicaciones goalkeeper kept the scores level after Antigua found space on the edge of the penalty area.
• Comunicaciones threatened from a set piece midway through the first half, but the Antigua defence cleared the danger.
• The breakthrough came in the second half when a quick attacking move ended with a composed finish inside the box to make it 1-0.
• Antigua pushed more players forward late on, but a combination of last-ditch defending and smart goalkeeping preserved the clean sheet.

Tactical Story

Antigua GFC’s possession-based approach gave them control of the ball, but Comunicaciones’ 4-2-3-1 shape made it difficult for the visitors to find clear openings through the middle. The home side’s two holding midfielders stayed disciplined, cutting off passing lanes and forcing Antigua to play around them rather than through them. That defensive structure was the foundation of the result.

When Comunicaciones did win the ball, they looked to transition quickly. Their wide players stretched the pitch, and the striker’s movement created space for runners from midfield. The winning goal was a perfect example of that plan: a compact defensive moment followed by a fast, purposeful attack.

Standout Performers

The Comunicaciones goalkeeper was central to the win, making important saves and commanding the penalty area during late Antigua pressure. The centre-back pairing also deserved credit for limiting clear chances, while the goalscorer produced the coolest moment of the match with the only goal. For Antigua, the midfield controller was their most impressive performer, repeatedly demanding the ball and trying to unlock a well-organised defence.

What the Result Means

The three points strengthen Comunicaciones’ position in the Liga Nacional playoff race and give them momentum heading into their next fixture. For Antigua GFC, the defeat is a frustrating one because they had enough possession to take something from the game, but they lacked the final pass and cutting edge in the attacking third. In a league where home form is often decisive, Comunicaciones will view this as an important, professional win.
