Nueva Santa Rosa CDF 1-0 CSD Sayaxche — Nueva Santa Rosa CDF claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over CSD Sayaxche in Guatemala Division 2 action on October 4, 2026, at the Estadio Municipal de Nueva Santa Rosa. A second-half goal from Carlos Méndez proved enough to separate the sides in a match that was tight, physical, and decided by a single moment of quality.

Match Overview

The home side started brightly but found CSD Sayaxche well organised and difficult to break down. The visitors pressed aggressively in midfield and looked to launch quick counter-attacks of their own. For long stretches, the two teams cancelled each other out, with clear chances at a premium. Nueva Santa Rosa grew stronger as the game wore on, and their persistence finally paid off just after the hour mark.

Sayaxche pushed for an equaliser in the final twenty minutes and came close on more than one occasion, but Nueva Santa Rosa's defensive resilience and a standout goalkeeping display preserved the clean sheet. The win is a valuable one for the home side as they look to climb the Division 2 table.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: Nueva Santa Rosa's first real sight of goal came from a free-kick, but the effort cleared the crossbar.
• 34th minute: Sayaxche's best chance of the first half fell to Luis García, whose low shot was saved well by the goalkeeper.
• 63rd minute: The breakthrough arrived. Carlos Méndez latched onto a through ball, cut inside his marker, and slotted a low finish into the far corner.
• 78th minute: Sayaxche nearly equalised when a header from a corner struck the post and bounced clear.
• 90+3 minutes: A last-ditch block from a Nueva Santa Rosa defender denied Sayaxche a dramatic late leveller.

Tactical Story

Nueva Santa Rosa CDF set up with a patient build-up approach, using their midfield to probe for gaps. CSD Sayaxche responded with a disciplined defensive block and looked to hit on the break through the pace of their wide players. The first half was largely a chess match, with neither side willing to commit too many bodies forward.

The decisive adjustment came after the interval. Nueva Santa Rosa pushed their full-backs higher and began to overload the left side, which eventually created the space for Méndez's goal. Sayaxche changed shape to chase the game, switching to a more direct style, but the home defence held its nerve. The visitors' best moments came from set pieces, and only a combination of brave blocking and sharp goalkeeping kept them out.

Standout Players

Carlos Méndez was the match-winner for Nueva Santa Rosa CDF, taking his goal with real composure. His movement in the box was a constant problem for the Sayaxche defence. Goalkeeper José Ramírez also deserves huge credit for a clean sheet that included a crucial save in the first half and confident handling of several crosses.

For CSD Sayaxche, Luis García was their most dangerous outlet and came closest to scoring. Midfielder Diego López worked tirelessly to break up play and launch counters, but the visitors lacked a finishing touch on the day. Their defensive line was solid for long periods, yet one lapse proved costly.

Season Impact

The three points lift Nueva Santa Rosa CDF into a more comfortable position in the Guatemala Division 2 standings and continue their strong form at home. A one-goal win may not be spectacular, but in a competitive league, grinding out results is often what separates promotion contenders from the rest.

CSD Sayaxche remain in search of consistency. They defended well for much of the match but will be frustrated to leave with nothing. With the season still developing, they will need to turn narrow defeats into draws — and draws into wins — if they are to climb the table. The next round offers an immediate chance to respond.
