Olympiakos (Youth) won a thrilling 3-2 contest against Panaitolikos U19 in the Greek U19 league on 17 October 2026, with a late goal settling a match that swung back and forth throughout.

Five goals, momentum changes, and a tense finish made this one of the more entertaining youth fixtures of the weekend. Panaitolikos U19 twice fought their way back into the game, but Olympiakos’s superior quality in the final third and their composure in the closing stages proved decisive. The win strengthens Olympiakos’s push near the top of the table, while Panaitolikos can take encouragement from a brave attacking display.

Match overview

Olympiakos started quickly and took the lead in the 8th minute through Dimitris Vlachos, who latched onto a through ball and finished confidently. Panaitolikos responded well and equalised in the 27th minute when Nikos Papadopoulos converted from close range after a goalmouth scramble. The visitors restored their lead just before half-time, with Giorgos Kotsis curling a fine effort into the far corner in the 44th minute.

The second half was equally open. Panaitolikos levelled again in the 63rd minute through Christos Marinakis, whose header looped beyond the goalkeeper. Tactical story

Olympiakos controlled the ball for long spells but were repeatedly exposed by Panaitolikos’s direct running in behind. The hosts’ back line played a high line, which created chances but also left space for quick transitions. Panaitolikos deserve credit for their tactical bravery; they refused to sit deep and were rewarded with two goals.

The decisive moment came from Olympiakos’s ability to switch play quickly. Their winner started with a turnover in midfield and ended with a clinical finish after a three-on-two break. Panaitolikos’s midfield tired in the final 10 minutes, and that slight drop in intensity allowed Olympiakos to find the extra gear they needed.

Standout performers

Giorgos Kotsis was excellent for Olympiakos, combining technical quality with intelligent movement. Dimitris Vlachos’s early goal set the tone, and Thanasis Retsos showed maturity with his late winner. For Panaitolikos, Christos Marinakis was a constant threat in the air and took his goal well, while Nikos Papadopoulos worked tirelessly across the front line.

What it means

For Olympiakos (Youth), the three points are valuable in a competitive Greek U19 league and underline their ability to win even when not at their best defensively. Panaitolikos U19 will take heart from scoring twice against a strong opponent, but they must tighten up in transition if they are to turn promising performances into points. The match was a reminder of the quality and unpredictability of youth football: fast, open, and full of players eager to make an impression.
