Thyella Katsikas were beaten 1-0 at home by Eordaikos in the Greek Gamma Ethniki on Sunday night, with an early set-piece goal proving enough to settle a hard-fought encounter. Eordaikos then defended resolutely to claim all three points.

Match overview

The visitors started strongly and scored inside the opening quarter of the match, giving themselves a platform to protect. Thyella Katsikas responded with more possession and pushed numbers forward after the break, but they found it difficult to create clear openings against a well-organised defence. Eordaikos were happy to absorb pressure and threaten on the break.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Eordaikos took the lead when a corner was met with a firm header at the near post.
• 39th minute: Thyella Katsikas created their best first-half chance, but a goal-bound effort was blocked in the box.
• 72nd minute: The Eordaikos goalkeeper made a strong save to deny a shot from the edge of the area.
• 88th minute: Thyella Katsikas sent a late header wide as the home side ran out of time.

Tactical story

Thyella Katsikas tried to stretch the game through their full-backs and get crosses into the box, but Eordaikos defended their penalty area well and won most of the important aerial duels. The visitors also slowed the tempo effectively, breaking up momentum and forcing Thyella to build from deeper positions. It was a pragmatic away performance built on organisation and a single moment of set-piece quality.

Standout performers

Eordaikos’ goalkeeper was decisive in the second half, while their centre-back marshalled the defence superbly. The set-piece scorer also made a difference at both ends. Thyella Katsikas’ captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield, and their right winger delivered several dangerous crosses, but the final ball was missing.

Season impact

Eordaikos will be pleased with a disciplined away win and a clean sheet in the Greek Gamma Ethniki. Thyella Katsikas remain with plenty to build on, having shown fight and territorial control after conceding early. The challenge now is to convert that pressure into goals in the coming fixtures.
