Samartex and Medeama SC shared the spoils in a tense 1-1 draw in the Ghana Premier League, with Nana Kofi Mensah’s first-half strike cancelled out by Isaac Ntow’s second-half penalty.

The match carried the intensity expected of a contest between two sides with strong ambitions, and both will feel they could have taken more. Samartex enjoyed the better of the first half, while Medeama responded impressively after the interval to earn a point on the road.

Match overview

Samartex began with purpose and took the lead in the 37th minute. A patient build-up ended with the ball worked into the feet of Mensah, who turned inside his marker and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner. The home crowd responded, and Samartex briefly threatened to take complete control.

Medeama regrouped at half-time and began to press with greater intensity. Their reward came in the 69th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a foul inside the box. Ntow stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to level the score.

Both sides had chances to win it in the closing stages. Samartex headed narrowly wide from a corner, while Medeama forced a fine save on the break. A draw was probably the fairest outcome.

• 45+1’ — Medeama’s free-kick effort is tipped over the bar.

Tactical story

Samartex’s first-half control came from their ability to dominate the midfield battle and force Medeama into mistakes. Their full-backs provided width, and Mensah’s movement between the lines caused problems. After the break, Medeama pushed their wingers higher and found more joy in the channels.

The penalty changed the momentum of the game. Medeama grew in confidence, while Samartex were forced to defend deeper than they would have liked. In the end, both teams settled for a point rather than risk defeat in the final minutes.

Standout performers

Mensah was Samartex’s most dangerous player, combining technical quality with a willingness to run in behind. Ntow was composed from the spot and tidy in possession for Medeama. Both goalkeepers made crucial saves at important moments, ensuring the game ended level.

Season impact

The point keeps Samartex and Medeama SC in the thick of the Ghana Premier League conversation, though both will know that consistency will be key as the season progresses. Samartex will be frustrated at letting a lead slip at home, while Medeama can be pleased with their second-half response. The draw leaves both sides with positives to build on and areas to refine.
