Steadfast FC produced one of their most complete performances of the season, sweeping aside Berekum City 3-0 in Ghana's Division One League on Friday night with a display of sharp finishing and disciplined defending.

Three goals, a clean sheet and total control from the opening whistle made this a statement result for the home side, who never allowed their opponents to settle and managed the game expertly once the lead was established.

Match overview

The tone was set early. Steadfast pressed aggressively from the front, forcing Berekum City into hurried passes and winning possession repeatedly in the attacking third. The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when a driven cross from the right was turned in at the near post, and from that point the contest rarely felt in doubt.

Berekum City tried to respond by pushing their full-backs higher, but that only widened the spaces Steadfast were so eager to attack. A second goal shortly after the interval effectively ended the match as a contest, before a late third added deserved gloss to the scoreline.

Key moments

• 18' — 1-0 Steadfast: A near-post finish from a low right-wing cross opens the scoring.
• 41' — Berekum City chance: A free header from a corner drifts narrowly wide.
• 55' — 2-0 Steadfast: A composed finish from the edge of the area doubles the lead.
• 67' — Berekum City down to ten: A second booking reduces the visitors to ten men.
• 84' — 3-0 Steadfast: A substitute seals the win with a first-time strike.

Tactical story

Steadfast's approach was built on intensity and width. Their wide players stayed high and wide, pinning Berekum City's full-backs deep and creating consistent two-on-one situations out wide. The midfield screened the back four intelligently, meaning the visitors' few counter-attacks were snuffed out before they could develop.

Berekum City's difficulties were compounded by their own indiscipline. Growing frustration produced a series of needless fouls, and the dismissal in the 67th minute removed any realistic hope of a comeback. From there, Steadfast simply controlled possession and waited for gaps to appear.

The third goal was the best of the night — a rapid move through the middle finished with a first-time strike from the edge of the box that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Standout players

The Steadfast forward line shared the credit, but it was the midfield that drove the performance, winning second balls and dictating the rhythm of the match. The substitute who scored the third goal made an immediate impact, and the goalkeeper's handling under a late spell of Berekum City pressure kept the clean sheet intact.

For Berekum City, there were few positives beyond the opening half hour. Their goalkeeper made several sharp saves to prevent a heavier defeat, and their captain continued to organise a defence that was repeatedly exposed.

What it means for the table

Three points and a three-goal swing give Steadfast a timely boost in the Division One League standings, strengthening their position as the season enters its pivotal stretch. The clean sheet will be especially encouraging for a side that has occasionally been vulnerable at the back.

Berekum City, by contrast, will need a response quickly. With games coming thick and fast, their squad depth and discipline will be tested, and this defeat will linger unless they produce a result in their next outing.
