Full-time: SV Wehen Wiesbaden 1-4 MSV Duisburg. The three points lift Duisburg in the 3. Liga standings and underline their credentials as a side capable of challenging for promotion.

Match Overview

Duisburg started on the front foot, pressing Wiesbaden’s defenders and forcing mistakes. The visitors looked sharper in the opening exchanges and took the lead inside the first quarter of an hour. Wiesbaden tried to respond, but their build-up play was too slow, allowing Duisburg to reorganise and counter effectively.

By half-time, Duisburg had a two-goal cushion, and although Wiesbaden pulled one back just before the break, the visitors restored their dominance in the second half. Two more goals after the interval completed a convincing victory. Wiesbaden’s defensive line struggled all match with Duisburg’s runners, and the home side rarely looked like mounting a comeback.

Key Moments

• 11th minute – Duisburg 1-0: Marvin Ajani opened the scoring with a low shot from the right side of the box after a swift counter-attack.
• 28th minute – Duisburg 2-0: Dennis Borkowski doubled the lead, finishing neatly after being played through by a defence-splitting pass.
• 43rd minute – Wiesbaden 1-2: Ivan Prtajin gave the hosts hope with a header from a cross, beating the goalkeeper from close range.
• 59th minute – Duisburg 3-1: Borkowski scored his second, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and firing into the roof of the net.
• 76th minute – Duisburg 4-1: Kolja Pusch completed the rout with a composed finish after another quick break, capping a dominant team performance.

Tactical Story

Duisburg’s 4-2-3-1 was built on energy and verticality. Their midfield won second balls consistently, and the front four attacked with pace whenever Wiesbaden lost possession. The visitors’ full-backs pushed high, pinning Wiesbaden back and creating space for the wingers to cut inside.

Wiesbaden’s defensive problems were evident throughout. Their high line was exposed repeatedly, and they failed to track runners from midfield. In possession, Wiesbaden were too predictable, often resorting to crosses that Duisburg’s centre-backs dealt with comfortably. The home side’s only real joy came from set-pieces, but it was not enough to change the game.

Standout Players

Dennis Borkowski was excellent for Duisburg, scoring twice and leading the line with intelligence. Marvin Ajani caused problems with his direct running, while Kolja Pusch added a fourth goal and controlled the tempo in the final third. For Wiesbaden, Ivan Prtajin took his goal well, but few others reached the required level.

What the Result Means

Duisburg’s emphatic win sends a warning to the rest of the 3. Liga. They now look like genuine promotion contenders, with a squad capable of scoring goals in bunches away from home. Wiesbaden, meanwhile, remain under pressure and must improve defensively if they are to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle. The result will be remembered as one of Duisburg’s most impressive road performances of the season.
