Hansa Rostock secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart II in a pulsating German 3. Liga clash at the Ostseestadion on September 17, 2026. The home side twice led, were twice pegged back, but found a late winner to claim all three points in front of a passionate Baltic coast crowd.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, Hansa Rostock imposed their physicality on the visitors. The hosts took the lead inside the opening quarter-hour when captain Lukas Fröde powered home a header from a corner. Stuttgart II, known for their technical youth academy graduates, responded well and equalised midway through the first half through a slick team move finished by Elias König. Rostock restored their advantage before the break, only for the young Swabians to level again early in the second half. It seemed the points would be shared until a late surge from the home side produced the decisive goal.

Key Moments

• 12' – 1-0 Rostock: Lukas Fröde rose highest to meet a whipped corner and bulleted a header past the Stuttgart goalkeeper.
• 34' – 1-1 Stuttgart II: A patient build-up ended with Elias König curling a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
• 43' – 2-1 Rostock: A quick counter-attack saw Kai Pröger race clear and slot calmly past the advancing keeper.
• 58' – 2-2 Stuttgart II: The visitors punished a defensive lapse, with Luca Herrmann finishing from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
• 88' – 3-2 Rostock: Substitute Mats Dähne latched onto a through ball and lifted it over the keeper to send the home fans into raptures.

Tactical Story

Rostock set up in a 4-2-3-1, using their wingers to stretch Stuttgart II's back four and deliver early crosses. Their game plan was clear: win the second balls and dominate set-pieces. Stuttgart II, by contrast, tried to play out from the back and use their pace in wide areas. For long spells, the visitors' quick passing unsettled the hosts, but Rostock's experience and physical advantage in the box ultimately told.

Standout Performers

Lukas Fröde was a colossus in midfield, breaking up play and scoring the opener. Kai Pröger's pace caused problems all evening, while match-winner Mats Dähne made an instant impact from the bench. For Stuttgart II, Elias König was a constant threat, and goalkeeper Florian Schock kept the score respectable with several fine saves.

What It Means

The win lifts Hansa Rostock into the upper reaches of the 3. Liga standings, boosting their promotion ambitions. For VfB Stuttgart II, the defeat leaves them searching for consistency as they continue to develop their young squad. The head-to-head record now favours Rostock, who have made the Ostseestadion a fortress this season.
