Bayern Munich Women delivered a statement performance in the Frauen Bundesliga on 20 October 2026, thrashing VfB Stuttgart (W) 5-0 at home. A blistering first-half display put the contest beyond the visitors early, and Bayern managed the second half with complete control to secure a comprehensive three points.

Match overview

Bayern set the tone from the opening whistle, pressing high and forcing Stuttgart into repeated turnovers. The hosts moved the ball with speed and precision, stretching the away defence through the wide areas before attacking the penalty area with numbers. Stuttgart tried to defend in a compact block, but Bayern’s movement and technical quality proved too much, and the game was effectively decided before half-time.

After the break, Bayern reduced the intensity slightly but never lost control. Stuttgart showed more resilience and managed a few spells of possession, yet the home side’s defensive discipline limited clear chances. A fourth and fifth goal in the second half completed a convincing scoreline that reflected Bayern’s dominance.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Bayern take the lead through Lea Schüller, who finishes calmly after a sharp move down the left.
• 23rd minute: Klara Bühl doubles the advantage with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
• 38th minute: Bayern add a third before half-time, capitalising on a loose pass and attacking quickly.
• 61st minute: Bühl scores her second, finishing off a flowing team move that cuts Stuttgart open.
• 82nd minute: A late substitute completes the scoring, heading home from a corner to make it 5-0.

Tactical story

Bayern’s dominance came from their pressing structure and the speed of their ball circulation. The midfield trio won possession high up the pitch and immediately looked to release the wide forwards, while the full-backs provided width to pin Stuttgart’s back line. Stuttgart’s low block was overloaded repeatedly, especially on the flanks, and their attempts to counter were often snuffed out within a few passes.

Standout performers

Klara Bühl was central to Bayern’s attacking threat, producing two goals and constant danger from the left. Lea Schüller led the line with intelligence, holding the ball up and creating space for runners. In midfield, Bayern’s captain controlled the rhythm and ensured the team remained patient even after building a comfortable lead. For Stuttgart, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, while their young centre-back showed composure under sustained pressure.

Season impact

The win strengthens Bayern’s position in the Frauen Bundesliga standings and adds a significant boost to their goal difference in the title race. A 5-0 home victory sends a clear message to the rest of the division about Bayern’s attacking depth and defensive solidity. Stuttgart, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly, but the experience against one of the league’s strongest sides offers useful lessons for the matches ahead.
