Union 60 Bremen 2-2 Werder Bremen III: match report

Union 60 Bremen started the contest with purpose, pressing high and looking to use the width of the pitch to stretch Werder Bremen III’s defensive shape. The hosts’ early pressure produced the opening goal, with a well-worked move down the flank ending in a low finish from inside the penalty area. It was the kind of goal that reflected Union 60’s direct approach and their willingness to commit numbers forward.

Werder Bremen III responded well to going behind. The visitors, known for the energy and technical quality of their reserve side, gradually settled into the game and began to find space between the lines. Their equaliser arrived before the break, capping a period of sustained possession and showing the composure that makes them dangerous even when playing away from home. The goal changed the mood of the contest and ensured the teams went into the interval level.

The second half was a more open affair. Union 60 Bremen regained the lead after the restart, capitalising on a set-piece situation and a scramble inside the box. For a spell, the hosts looked capable of seeing the game out, defending with greater compactness and looking to hit on the counter-attack. But Werder Bremen III kept pushing and found a late response, breaking through with a move that exposed the space left by Union 60’s advanced full-backs.

Key moments and tactical story

The game was defined by momentum swings. Union 60 Bremen’s best spells came when they pressed aggressively and forced Werder Bremen III into rushed clearances. The visitors, by contrast, looked most threatening when they slowed the tempo and worked the ball into wide areas before delivering into the box. Both teams had chances to win it in the closing stages, but neither goalkeeper was beaten again.

The draw adds a point to both teams’ tallies and leaves each side with mixed feelings. Union 60 Bremen will be frustrated to have led twice without winning, while Werder Bremen III will take encouragement from their resilience and their ability to respond under pressure. In a competitive fifth-tier campaign, matches like this often hinge on small details, and both sides showed enough going forward to suggest they can remain difficult opponents in the coming weeks.
