TSG Backnang edged a remarkable seven-goal contest against TSV Essingen in German Bundesliga 5 on 24 October 2026, winning 4-3 after a dramatic second half. The visitors led, were pegged back, and then found a late winner in a match that swung wildly from end to end.

Tactical story

Both sides prioritised attacking transitions over defensive solidity, which made for an entertaining but chaotic contest. Backnang’s midfield won the ball back quickly and looked to release their forwards early, while Essingen’s wide players caused problems with direct runs behind the defence. Set pieces also proved decisive, with Backnang scoring from a corner and creating several other dangerous moments.

Essingen’s decision to push numbers forward in the final 15 minutes created chances but also left them exposed. Backnang managed the closing stages well, slowing the tempo and clearing their lines under pressure. The away side’s clinical finishing in the second half ultimately proved the difference.

Standout performers

Haug was a constant threat for Backnang, combining movement with sharp finishing, while Jonas Keller controlled the midfield and provided the assist for the third goal. For Essingen, Marco Brenner was their most dangerous player, scoring one and creating another. Both goalkeepers were busy, but it was Backnang’s ability to take their chances in the decisive moments that stood out.

What the result means

The win gives TSG Backnang a valuable three points in German Bundesliga 5 and reinforces their attacking credentials. For TSV Essingen, the defeat is a painful one after a spirited comeback, but the performance showed plenty of character. Both teams will know that tighter defending will be essential if they are to achieve their ambitions this season, but this match will be remembered for its entertainment value and relentless pace.
