TSV Essingen 2-1 Nottingen: Late Winner Settles Tight Bundesliga 5 Contest

TSV Essingen edged Nottingen 2-1 in a closely fought German Bundesliga 5 encounter on Saturday, 26 September 2026. A late goal at the Panorama-Sportpark gave the hosts all three points after a match that swung back and forth and remained in the balance until the final minutes.

The result lifted Essingen in the league standings and extended their strong home form. Nottingen, who matched their opponents for long spells, were left frustrated after an otherwise disciplined away performance.

Match Overview

The opening exchanges were cagey, with both teams cautious about committing too many players forward. Essingen looked to build patiently from the back, while Nottingen pressed in short bursts and tried to spring quick counter-attacks. The first real chance fell to Essingen after a corner, but the header drifted wide.

As the first half wore on, space began to appear in midfield. Essingen took the lead with a well-worked move, only for Nottingen to respond after the break. The visitors’ equaliser injected new energy into the contest, and for a period they looked the more likely side to score next. Essingen, however, regained their composure and found the winning moment late on.

Key Moments

• 22nd minute: TSV Essingen opened the scoring with a precise finish from just inside the penalty area after a neat passing sequence.
• 35th minute: Nottingen threatened an equaliser when their striker broke clear, but the Essingen goalkeeper stood tall.
• 61st minute: Nottingen levelled the match with a header from a deep cross, rewarding their improved second-half pressure.
• 84th minute: Essingen struck the winner, pouncing on a loose ball and firing low into the bottom corner.
• 90+4th minute: Nottingen’s final attack ended with a blocked shot, and the referee blew for full time moments later.

Tactical Story

Essingen lined up with a compact midfield and looked to overload the half-spaces when their full-backs advanced. Their opening goal came from exactly that pattern: a central pass, a quick lay-off, and a finish from a supporting runner. Nottingen responded by pushing their wingers higher and targeting the space behind Essingen’s full-backs.

The visitors’ equaliser forced Essingen to adapt. The hosts switched to a more direct approach in the final twenty minutes, using their striker as a focal point and winning second balls around the box. That change created the pressure that led to the winner. Nottingen will feel they deserved something from the game, but Essingen’s game management in the closing stages proved decisive.

Standout Players

Essingen’s goalkeeper made several important saves, including a one-on-one stop in the first half. The match-winner showed sharp instincts inside the area, while the captain controlled the tempo in midfield. Nottingen’s best performers were their central defender, who dealt with a lot of aerial pressure, and their goalscorer, who was a constant threat on the break.

Season Impact

This win gives TSV Essingen a valuable boost in the German Bundesliga 5 table and reinforces their reputation as a tough team to beat at home. Nottingen remain competitive but will need to turn promising performances into points. With the season still in its early months, both clubs have time to shape their campaigns, but the manner of this defeat may linger for the visitors.
