TSG Backnang produced a composed and increasingly dominant home display to beat Young Boys Reutlingen 3-1 in German Bundesliga 5 on Saturday, 17 October 2026. The hosts scored first, absorbed a short spell of pressure after Reutlingen’s equaliser, and then pulled clear in the second half with two well-worked goals at the Etzwiesenstadion.

Full-time score: TSG Backnang 3-1 Young Boys Reutlingen.

Match overview

Backnang began with purpose and looked the more settled side from the opening minutes. Their midfield pressed aggressively, forcing Reutlingen into hurried clearances, and the home side’s early control was rewarded with the opening goal. Reutlingen responded with a more direct approach and found an equaliser before half-time, but Backnang regained the initiative after the break and finished the stronger team.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Backnang opened the scoring after a quick move down the right ended with a low finish inside the penalty area.
• 34th minute: Young Boys Reutlingen levelled with a counter-attacking goal, punishing a loose pass in midfield.
• 58th minute: Backnang restored their lead after winning the ball high up the pitch and finishing calmly from the edge of the box.
• 84th minute: The hosts sealed the win with a third goal on the break, ending Reutlingen’s hopes of a comeback.

Tactical story

Backnang’s 4-2-3-1 shape gave them control in central areas, with the full-backs pushing high to stretch Reutlingen’s back line. The away side tried to press in a 4-4-2 and enjoyed a useful spell around their equaliser, but they struggled to sustain that intensity after the interval. Backnang’s second-half adjustment—keeping an extra midfielder behind the ball while allowing the wide players to attack one-on-one—made the difference. Reutlingen were forced deeper and had fewer chances to counter.

Standout performers

The Backnang No. 10 was central to much of his team’s best work, linking midfield and attack and setting the tempo after half-time. The home right winger caused persistent problems with direct running, while the centre-back pairing dealt well with Reutlingen’s long balls in the final 20 minutes. For Reutlingen, the goalkeeper made several important saves to keep the score close until the late third goal.

Season impact

The three points give Backnang valuable momentum in the German Bundesliga 5 table and reinforce their home form. Reutlingen leave empty-handed but showed enough in the first half to suggest they can compete in the coming fixtures. For Backnang, the performance was as encouraging as the result: they managed the game well, created chances from different areas, and protected their lead with maturity.
