In one of the most entertaining matches of the German Bundesliga 5 weekend, Solingen-Wald won a seven-goal thriller against TSV Meerbusch, finishing 4-3 on Sunday, 4 October 2026. The hosts twice surrendered the initiative but found a decisive fourth goal to claim all three points in a game that swung wildly from end to end.

Match Overview

Fixtures between Niederrhein-region clubs at this level are rarely dull, and this one delivered on every front: comebacks, defensive lapses, superb individual goals and a frantic final twenty minutes. Solingen-Wald's attacking play was sharp and direct throughout, while TSV Meerbusch showed real character to keep hauling themselves back into the contest — only to be undone by a defence that could not hold firm when it mattered most.

• Final score: Solingen-Wald 4-3 TSV Meerbusch

How the Game Unfolded

Solingen-Wald began with purpose, pressing high and forcing Meerbusch into hurried clearances. The early pressure told, and the hosts took the lead with a well-constructed move that ended with a low finish at the near post. Rather than retreat, though, the visitors responded impressively, equalising within minutes through a swift counter-attack that exposed gaps on the home side's left.

The pattern repeated itself. Solingen-Wald restored their advantage before the break with a header from a corner, but Meerbusch came out after the interval determined to press higher and were rewarded with a second equaliser after a scramble in the penalty area.

What followed was the most chaotic passage of the match. Solingen-Wald scored twice in quick succession — the first a stunning long-range strike, the second a tap-in after a defensive error — to open a 4-2 lead that looked to have settled matters. Meerbusch, however, refused to fold. They pulled one back with a well-taken free kick and threw bodies forward in the closing stages, forcing three late corners and one goal-line clearance that proved decisive.

Tactical Story

This was a match decided by transitions rather than structure. Both teams committed players forward aggressively, and both were repeatedly punished for it. Solingen-Wald's willingness to attack down the flanks created constant overloads, but it also left their full-backs exposed whenever possession was surrendered cheaply in midfield.

Meerbusch's biggest problem was their inability to protect a defensive line that sat too high. Three of the four goals conceded came from situations where the back four was caught upfield or ball-watching, a recurring issue that will concern the coaching staff despite the team's fighting spirit.

Standout Performers

• Solingen-Wald's attacking unit: Four goals from four different phases of play — counter, set piece, long shot and pressing.
• The long-range goalscorer: A strike that briefly looked to have broken Meerbusch's resistance.
• Meerbusch's set-piece takers: Consistent delivery that kept the visitors alive right to the final whistle.
• The Solingen-Wald goalkeeper: A stoppage-time save preserved the win.

What It Means for the Table

Three points from a seven-goal game are worth exactly the same as three points from a scrappy 1-0, but the manner of this victory will do wonders for Solingen-Wald's confidence going forward. It also highlights a defensive fragility they will need to fix if they are to climb the standings consistently.

For TSV Meerbusch, the defeat is painful but far from damaging. Scoring three goals away from home at this level is a genuine achievement, and if they can tighten up at the back, results will follow.
