Singen 3-1 SSV Reutlingen 05: Clinical second-half display seals impressive win

Singen produced a superb second-half performance to defeat SSV Reutlingen 05 by 3-1 on Sunday evening in German fifth-tier football. In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, the hosts turned a tight contest into a commanding victory with a ruthless display after the interval.

The result is a significant one for Singen, who beat one of the more historically decorated clubs in the region, and it underlined the progress the team has made in recent weeks.

Match overview

The opening exchanges were evenly matched, with both sides looking to establish control in midfield. SSV Reutlingen 05, playing a patient possession game, had the better of the early chances and tested the Singen goalkeeper twice inside the first 20 minutes.

It was Singen who broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, capitalising on a loose pass with a swift counter-attack and a composed finish into the bottom corner. Reutlingen responded well and equalised in the 43rd minute, a well-taken header from a deep cross making it 1-1 at the interval.

The second half, however, belonged entirely to the home side. Singen regained the lead in the 56th minute with a beautifully constructed goal — a series of quick passes through midfield ending in a low shot from the edge of the box. The third arrived in the 74th minute, a curling free-kick that found the top corner and effectively ended the contest.

Reutlingen pushed forward in the closing stages but found the Singen defence in uncompromising mood, and the hosts comfortably saw out the win.

• 56' — 2-1 Singen: A slick passing move through midfield is finished with a low strike from the edge of the area.

Tactical story

Singen's success was built on intelligent pressing and the speed of their transitions. Whenever Reutlingen lost the ball in midfield, the home side attacked immediately and directly, and the visitors struggled to recover their defensive shape.

Reutlingen enjoyed more of the ball across the 90 minutes but lacked penetration against a well-drilled back line. Their best moments came from crosses, but once Singen tightened up in the air after the break, those avenues were closed off.

Standout performers

Singen's attacking midfielder was the game's outstanding player, involved in two of the three goals and constantly finding pockets of space between the lines. The set-piece specialist who curled home the third goal provided the moment of the match with a strike of genuine quality.

For Reutlingen, the scorer of the first-half header showed excellent movement and aerial ability, and the goalkeeper made several fine saves to keep the final score respectable.

What it means

Three goals and three points against a club of Reutlingen's reputation represents a real statement of intent from Singen. Victory keeps them moving in the right direction in the fifth-tier standings and gives them confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

SSV Reutlingen 05 will be disappointed with the manner of the defeat, particularly after competing so well in the first half. The club's ambitions remain high, and they will be eager to respond quickly in their next outing.
