SC Freital edged SSC Weissenfels 3-2 in a dramatic German Bundesliga 5 encounter on 24 October 2026, with a late goal deciding a match that swung one way and then the other. SC Freital appeared to be in control after building a two-goal lead, but SSC Weissenfels fought back to level before the home side found a decisive third goal in the closing stages.

The victory gives SC Freital an important three points in the league table, while SSC Weissenfels were left to reflect on a brave comeback that ultimately fell just short.

Match overview

SC Freital started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute when Lukas Neumann found space inside the penalty area and finished with a low strike. The home side doubled their advantage early in the second half, again through Neumann, who reacted quickest to a loose ball following a corner and bundled it over the line.

At 2-0, the match seemed to be heading towards a comfortable SC Freital win. But SSC Weissenfels responded with character. Tom Berger pulled one back in the 56th minute with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box, and Kevin Arnold equalised in the 79th minute after a period of sustained pressure.

With the game seemingly destined for a draw, SC Freital pushed forward once more. Their persistence paid off in the 87th minute when Marco Seidel arrived at the back post to convert a cross and seal a 3-2 victory.

Tactical story

SC Freital lined up with a direct 4-4-2 approach, looking to win second balls and supply their forwards quickly. That strategy worked well in the first hour, with Neumann’s movement causing constant problems for the SSC Weissenfels defence. SC Freital’s set-piece threat was also evident, leading to their second goal.

SSC Weissenfels changed their shape after falling two goals behind, pushing an extra midfielder forward and increasing the tempo of their passing. The adjustment worked, allowing them to pin SC Freital back for long spells. However, the visitors were ultimately punished for leaving space at the back in the closing minutes.

Standout players

Lukas Neumann was the standout performer for SC Freital, scoring twice and leading the line with energy throughout. Marco Seidel’s late winner underlined his importance in big moments, while the home midfield worked tirelessly to regain control after SSC Weissenfels’ comeback.

For SSC Weissenfels, Tom Berger and Kevin Arnold were the driving forces behind the revival. Goalkeeper Felix Kramer also made several important saves to keep his side in the match before the late decisive goal.

League impact and what comes next

The three points lift SC Freital’s momentum in the German Bundesliga 5 and strengthen their position in a competitive table. A win of this nature, achieved after surrendering a two-goal lead, can be a valuable confidence boost for the squad.

SSC Weissenfels will take encouragement from their second-half performance despite the defeat. The comeback showed their attacking potential, but the late concession highlights the fine margins in the division. Both sides now prepare for their next fixtures with plenty to build on from a five-goal contest that kept supporters entertained until the final whistle.
