Tactical Story

Both sides played with high defensive lines and committed numbers forward, which turned the match into an end-to-end contest. Ratingen SV tried to build through midfield, but their passing was often rushed, leading to turnovers in dangerous areas. Sonsbeck were more direct and repeatedly attacked the space behind Ratingen’s full-backs.

Sonsbeck’s midfield did a better job of controlling the tempo after taking the lead for the third time. They slowed the game down when needed and then accelerated quickly on the counter. Ratingen’s defensive organisation was the main issue, as they failed to track runners and conceded too many clear chances inside the penalty area.

Standout Players

Jan van Loon was the undisputed star of the match with a hat-trick, showing excellent movement and composure in front of goal. Luca Schmitz also impressed with two well-taken goals and constant energy in the attacking third. For Ratingen SV, Mehmet Aydin scored twice and was their most dangerous player, while Tobias Neumann’s equaliser briefly gave the home side belief.

Season Impact

The 5-3 win gives Sportverein Sonsbeck a major confidence boost in the German Bundesliga 5 standings. Scoring five away goals is a strong statement, even if the defensive display will need improvement. Ratingen SV, meanwhile, will be concerned about conceding eight goals in a single match. Their attacking play showed promise, but unless they tighten up at the back, they will struggle to climb the table consistently.
