Pforzheim 0-2 Villingen: Clinical Visitors Claim Away Victory

Pforzheim were beaten 0-2 by Villingen in German Bundesliga 5 on Saturday evening, as the visitors produced a disciplined and clinical away performance. Villingen scored in each half and defended their lead with maturity, leaving Pforzheim frustrated after a game in which they saw plenty of the ball but created too little.

The result strengthens Villingen’s position in the upper reaches of the table and hands Pforzheim a second consecutive home setback.

Match Overview

Pforzheim began with intent, moving the ball quickly and trying to stretch Villingen’s back four. However, the visitors were well organised and rarely allowed their hosts a clear sight of goal. Villingen took the lead midway through the first half and then sat deeper, inviting Pforzheim forward before looking to counter.

The second goal arrived in the final quarter of the match, effectively ending Pforzheim’s hopes of a comeback. The home side pushed bodies forward late on, but Villingen’s defence held firm and their goalkeeper dealt comfortably with the few crosses that came his way.

Key Moments

• 21st minute: Villingen take the lead through Simon Haas, who finishes first-time after a low cross from the right.
• 38th minute: Pforzheim’s best chance of the first half falls to Nico Walter, but his effort is saved by Tobias Kern.
• 62nd minute: Villingen almost double their lead when Luca Bär’s header hits the top of the crossbar.
• 74th minute: Bär makes no mistake second time around, converting a penalty after a foul in the box.
• 86th minute: Pforzheim substitute Elias Krämer forces a save from Kern with a dipping shot from distance.

Tactical Story

Pforzheim set up in a 4-3-3 and tried to dominate possession through their midfield triangle. They moved the ball side to side but struggled to break through Villingen’s compact 4-4-2 defensive block. The visitors’ midfielders stayed disciplined, closing the central spaces and forcing Pforzheim into wide areas where crosses were easier to defend.

Villingen’s attacking plan was simple but effective: win the ball back, play forward quickly and attack the space behind Pforzheim’s full-backs. Their first goal came from exactly that pattern, and their second arrived when Pforzheim’s frustration began to show in unnecessary fouls.

Standout Players

Simon Haas was Villingen’s standout performer, opening the scoring and constantly threatening on the break. Luca Bär added the second and was a handful in the air, while goalkeeper Tobias Kern kept a well-deserved clean sheet. For Pforzheim, Nico Walter worked tirelessly in midfield, but the home side lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Table and Season Impact

Villingen move into a more comfortable position in the Bundesliga 5 standings with this away win, underlining their credentials as a side capable of competing near the top. Pforzheim remain in mid-table and will need to improve their home form if they are to climb. The main concern for the hosts will be their inability to convert possession into clear chances.
