Eckernforder SV claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over MTSV Hohenwestedt in the German Bundesliga 5, coming from behind to secure all three points in a competitive local derby. The win lifts Eckernforder up the table and leaves Hohenwestedt searching for consistency.

Match Overview

The two Schleswig-Holstein sides produced a typically robust fifth-tier encounter, with plenty of intensity and no little skill. Hohenwestedt started brightly and took the lead, but Eckernforder responded with two goals either side of half-time to turn the match around.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: MTSV Hohenwestedt took the lead with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box after a period of pressure.
• 34th: Eckernforder equalised with a header from a free-kick, catching the Hohenwestedt defence off guard.
• 62nd: Eckernforder took the lead with a composed finish after a quick counter-attack.

• 90+3: Eckernforder cleared a late corner to seal the win.

Tactical Story

Hohenwestedt set up in a 4-4-2, looking to use their physical presence up front and deliver crosses into the box. That approach worked early on, but as the game wore on, Eckernforder's midfield gained control. Their 4-2-3-1 shape allowed them to overload the centre and launch quick transitions, which proved decisive.

Eckernforder's winning goal came from a classic counter-attack, with their winger breaking free and squaring for a simple finish. Hohenwestedt's defence, which had been solid for much of the first half, was left exposed as they committed men forward in search of an equaliser.

Standout Players

• Eckernforder's central midfielder: Dictated the tempo and provided the assist for the equaliser.
• Eckernforder's striker: Took his goal well and led the line tirelessly.
• Hohenwestedt's goalkeeper: Made several important saves to keep his side in the game.

Table and Season Impact

The three points move Eckernforder SV into a more comfortable position in the German Bundesliga 5 standings, while MTSV Hohenwestedt remain in mid-table. With the season still young, both teams will look to build momentum from this result, but it is Eckernforder who will travel home happiest.

Hohenwestedt will need to improve their defensive concentration in the coming weeks if they are to climb the table. Eckernforder, meanwhile, will take confidence from a resilient away performance in a local derby.
