Hessen Kassel B and SV 1898 Unter-Flockenbach played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in German Bundesliga 5 on 18 October 2026, with both sides taking a point after a contest that swung repeatedly. Kassel B twice held the lead, but Unter-Flockenbach showed patience and character to respond on both occasions.

Match overview

The home side began with energy and pressed high, looking to force mistakes in Unter-Flockenbach’s build-up. Their reward came in the 14th minute when Nico Sturm found space on the edge of the box and curled a neat finish beyond the goalkeeper. Kassel B’s youthful intensity made them difficult to contain early on, but Unter-Flockenbach gradually settled and began to string passes together.

The equaliser arrived in the 38th minute through Elias Brand, who capitalised on a half-cleared corner and drove the ball back through a crowded penalty area. Kassel B regained the advantage just after the hour mark from the penalty spot, but the visitors kept pushing and found a late leveller through Jonas Seidel.

Key moments

• 14’ – Kassel B take the lead: Nico Sturm curls a composed finish into the bottom corner.
• 38’ – Unter-Flockenbach equalise: Elias Brand reacts quickest to a loose ball and makes it 1-1.
• 61’ – Kassel B retake the lead: Malik Tchoumi converts a penalty after a foul inside the box.
• 76’ – Big chance for 3-1: Kassel B break clear but are denied by a strong save.
• 82’ – Late leveller: Jonas Seidel arrives at the back post to finish a well-worked move.

Tactical story

Kassel B’s approach was built on tempo. They pressed aggressively, won second balls and tried to turn possession into quick attacks. That style gave them the initiative for long periods, particularly in the first half, but it also left them vulnerable when Unter-Flockenbach managed to play through the initial pressure.

Unter-Flockenbach’s response was patient. They widened the pitch, used their midfielders to circulate the ball and waited for gaps to appear. Their two goals both came from sustained pressure rather than isolated moments. The late equaliser was especially well constructed, with a deep cross finding Seidel at the back post for a calm finish.

Standout players

Sturm was lively throughout for Kassel B and gave his side an early platform. Tchoumi’s penalty was important, and the home goalkeeper made a crucial save at 2-1 to preserve the lead for a while. For Unter-Flockenbach, Brand’s equaliser changed the mood of the match, while Seidel’s late composure underlined his value in the closing stages.

Table impact

The draw leaves both teams with something to build on but also with a sense of what might have been. Kassel B will be frustrated to surrender a lead twice, especially after creating the better chances in the second half. Unter-Flockenbach, by contrast, will value the point for the resilience shown away from home. In a tightly packed Bundesliga 5 table, such draws can prove important by the end of the season.

Overall, the 2-2 result felt like a fair reflection of a game in which neither side managed to impose complete control. Kassel B had the greater urgency; Unter-Flockenbach had the stronger finish. Both will take lessons into their next fixtures.
