FV Diefflen and VfR Wormatia Worms played out a breathless 3-3 draw in German Bundesliga 5 action on Saturday 10 October 2026, a result that satisfied nobody and entertained everybody. Six goals, a lead that changed hands and a late equaliser made this one of the standout scorelines of the weekend in the fifth tier.

Match Overview

Wormatia Worms arrived as one of the more recognisable names in the division, a club with a deep tradition and a passionate travelling support, while Diefflen continue to establish themselves as awkward, well-organised opposition on their own ground. The first half alone produced four goals, with both defences struggling to contain direct, purposeful attacking play.

Key Moments

• Diefflen open the scoring: The hosts struck first, converting a well-worked move down the left with a composed finish inside the penalty area.
• Worms reply quickly: The response was almost immediate, a driven shot from the edge of the box bringing the visitors level.
• Hosts back in front: Diefflen regained the lead before half-time, capitalising on a defensive mix-up to score from close range.
• Second-half surge: Wormatia came out transformed after the break, scoring twice in quick succession to turn the game around and lead 3-2.
• Late drama: With the game drifting towards an away win, Diefflen found an equaliser in the final minutes, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Tactical Story

This was a match defined by transitions rather than control. Neither side managed to impose a sustained rhythm, and both coaches will have been frustrated by how easily their midfields were bypassed. Wormatia's improvement after the interval came from pushing their full-backs higher and committing more bodies into the box, which created the overloads that produced their two quick goals.

Diefflen's response was instructive. Rather than panicking, they simplified their game, went more direct and looked to win second balls around the opposition penalty area. That approach eventually earned them the set-piece situation from which they salvaged the draw, and it says something about the character within the squad.

Standout Performers

Wormatia's attacking players carried the greater threat for long spells, with their link-up play around the box causing constant problems. For Diefflen, the midfielders who kept the team pressing and the substitute who changed the tempo late on were central to the comeback. Both goalkeepers, meanwhile, were kept busy throughout a frantic evening.

Season Impact

A draw does little for either side's league position, but the manner of it matters. Wormatia Worms will view two dropped points from a 3-2 lead as a missed opportunity in their push for a strong finish, while Diefflen can take genuine encouragement from refusing to accept defeat against one of the division's bigger clubs.

In a league where goal difference and fine margins often decide promotion and relegation issues, shipping three goals at home remains a concern for the hosts, just as conceding three for the visitors underlines a defensive frailty that better sides will punish.

What's Next

Both clubs now face quick turnarounds. Diefflen will look to tighten up defensively without losing their attacking intent, while Wormatia Worms will want to convert dominant spells into wins as they continue their campaign.
