Full-time score: 1 FC Normannia Gmund 1-2 TSV Essingen.

Match overview

Essingen started with a compact shape and looked dangerous whenever they won the ball in midfield. The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute and then defended their advantage with discipline, forcing Normannia to build attacks through wide areas. Gmund improved as the first half wore on and equalised four minutes before the break, but Essingen regrouped at half-time and produced the stronger finish.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Essingen took the lead with a composed finish after a turnover in midfield.
• 41st minute: Normannia Gmund equalised through a header from a corner, rewarded for a growing spell of pressure.
• 76th minute: Essingen scored the winner when a low cross from the left was converted at the back post.
• Late save: Essingen’s goalkeeper denied Normannia an equaliser with a strong stop in the final minutes.

Tactical story

Normannia Gmund enjoyed more possession, especially in the second half, but Essingen’s mid-block made it difficult for them to find clear openings in central areas. The away side were happy to concede territory and attack through quick transitions, and that approach produced both goals. Gmund’s full-backs pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Essingen’s defensive discipline and ability to cover the space behind the midfield held firm.

Standout performers

Essingen’s goalkeeper was one of the key figures, making important saves in both halves. The away central midfielder controlled the tempo and broke up several Normannia attacks, while the substitute who provided the winning assist made an immediate impact. For Gmund, the captain drove the team forward and the centre-forward caused problems in the air, but the home side lacked a clinical final touch.

Season impact

The result gives Essingen a valuable away victory and strengthens their position in the league standings. Normannia Gmund are left to reflect on a game in which they had spells of control but failed to turn possession into enough clear chances. Essingen’s ability to win on the road in a tight contest could prove significant as the season develops.
