FC Einheit Wernigerode and SC Freital played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the German Bundesliga 5 on Sunday evening, a match that swung one way and then the other before a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer. Daniel Krause scored twice for the hosts, but Freital showed remarkable resilience to claim a point.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, it was clear that both sides were committed to attacking football. Wernigerode started brightly and took the lead in the 12th minute through Daniel Krause. Freital responded well, equalizing on 28 minutes via Kevin Schmidt. Just before half-time, Wernigerode regained the advantage when Florian Becker finished off a slick team move.

The second half continued in the same end-to-end fashion. Freital equalized for a second time on the hour mark through Tom Berger, only for Krause to restore Wernigerode’s lead in the 78th minute. It looked like the hosts would hold on, but Berger struck again in the third minute of stoppage time to snatch a point for the visitors.

Tactical Analysis

Both teams lined up in 4-4-2 formations, which led to a open, stretched contest. Wernigerode looked to get their full-backs forward at every opportunity, creating overloads on the flanks. Freital, meanwhile, were more direct, using the pace of their front two to exploit space behind the Wernigerode defense. Defensively, both sides struggled to cope with the intensity of the opposition’s attacks, and set pieces proved particularly dangerous.

Wernigerode will be disappointed to have conceded so late, having twice taken the lead in the second half. Freital, on the other hand, will take great encouragement from their fighting spirit and the quality of their two equalizers.

Standout Players

Daniel Krause (FC Einheit Wernigerode): The striker scored twice and was a constant menace with his movement and finishing.

Tom Berger (SC Freital): Also scored twice, including the dramatic late equalizer, and led the line superbly for the visitors.

Kevin Schmidt (SC Freital): The midfielder was excellent in the first half, scoring one and creating several chances.

Table Impact

The draw leaves both teams in mid-table, with Wernigerode ninth and Freital tenth. While a point apiece does little to change their immediate prospects, the manner of the draw will give both sides confidence. Wernigerode will rue their missed opportunity to climb higher, while Freital will view it as a valuable away point against a strong opponent. Both will be looking to tighten up defensively in the coming weeks.
