Würzburger FV claimed a 2-1 away victory against Bayern Hof in the German fifth tier on Saturday, 3 October 2026. The Franconian derby produced a tight, tactical contest that the visitors edged thanks to sharper finishing and a well-organised defensive display.

Two Historic Clubs, One Tight Contest

Very few fifth-tier fixtures in Germany can boast the heritage that Bayern Hof and Würzburger FV bring to the pitch. Between them, the two clubs have spent decades in the professional game, trading blows with some of the biggest names in German football during their 2. Bundesliga years. That shared history adds extra spice whenever they meet, and this Bavarian derby between Upper Franconia and Lower Franconia was no exception.

Played at Hof's tradition-steeped ground, the match drew a passionate crowd and delivered a contest that was decided by fine margins rather than dominance.

How the Match Unfolded

Bayern Hof started the brighter of the two sides. Urged on by their home support, they pressed aggressively and forced their visitors into a series of hurried clearances. The breakthrough came from that early pressure, with the hosts taking a deserved lead and briefly threatening to take control of the game.

Würzburger FV responded with composure rather than panic. They slowed the tempo, began to string passes together in midfield and worked their way back into the contest. An equaliser arrived before the interval, and the second half belonged largely to the visitors, who defended their lead with maturity once they had gone in front.

Key Moments

• The opening goal: Bayern Hof capitalised on a spell of sustained pressure, finishing sharply from inside the area.
• The equaliser: A patient Würzburger FV move stretched the home defence and created the space for a composed finish.
• The winning goal: Early in the second half, a quick counter-attack caught Hof pushing forward, and the visitors punished them.
• The defensive stand: Würzburger FV survived a late barrage of crosses and long throws to hold on to all three points.

Tactical Story

Bayern Hof's approach was built on energy and directness. They pressed high, looked to win the ball in the attacking third and get crosses into the box quickly. It worked well in the opening 25 minutes but became less effective as the game wore on and the visitors adapted.

Würzburger FV showed impressive game management. They dropped into a compact block when leading, kept their shape under pressure and used their wingers as outlets on the counter. Their winning goal was a textbook example of that strategy, turning defence into attack in a matter of seconds.

Standout Performers

Würzburger FV's goalkeeper was central to the result, producing a series of confident claims from crosses and one outstanding reflex save in the closing stages. The two central defenders read the game superbly, while the midfielder who drove the equalising move dictated the rhythm of the second half.

For Bayern Hof, the goalscorer was a constant threat with his movement in the box, and the young wide player who repeatedly beat his marker offered real encouragement for the months ahead.

What It Means in the Table

In the fifth tier of German football, away wins in derby fixtures are the currency of a promotion push, and Würzburger FV will take real confidence from this result. They showed resilience, discipline and the ability to score at decisive moments.

Bayern Hof, meanwhile, will be frustrated at letting a lead slip, but their start to the game showed what they are capable of. With a long season ahead in the Bayernliga, both clubs remain well placed to challenge at the right end of the table — and on this evidence, their next meeting should be every bit as compelling.
