Bayern Alzenau edged out KSV Baunatal 2-1 at the Sportzentrum am Prischoß on Saturday evening, grinding out three hard-earned Hessenliga points in a match that swung on fine margins and a decisive second-half spell. The hosts led, were pegged back, and then found the winning goal to close out a tight contest in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

The two sides met under the floodlights with a 20:00 kickoff, and the game quickly settled into the pattern that would define it: Alzenau controlling possession in midfield, Baunatal defending deep and looking to strike on the counter. The visitors' game plan was disciplined and compact, but it required them to absorb pressure for long stretches, and that eventually told.

It was a result that mattered in the crowded middle section of the Hessenliga table, where a couple of wins can vault a club towards the promotion conversation and a couple of defeats can drag it back towards the bottom third.

Key Moments

• Opening goal: Alzenau broke the deadlock with a move that started on the right flank and finished inside the penalty area, the sort of patient build-up the hosts had been threatening from the first whistle.
• The response: Baunatal hit back after the interval, punishing a moment of hesitation at the back and levelling with a well-taken effort that silenced the home crowd.
• The winner: With the game drifting towards a draw, Alzenau restored their lead and then managed the closing minutes maturely, keeping the ball in the corners and limiting their opponent's set-piece opportunities.

Tactical Story

Alzenau's shape was built around getting their full-backs high and stretching Baunatal horizontally. Once the visitors' midfield line dropped, gaps appeared between the centre-backs and the wide defenders, and Alzenau's attacking players were repeatedly able to receive in those pockets. The only phase in which that plan faltered was a 15-minute window after the restart, when Baunatal pressed higher and forced turnovers in dangerous areas.

Baunatal's response was to go more direct, targeting the channels behind Alzenau's advanced full-backs. It worked well enough to earn the equaliser, but it also left them exposed when they lost the ball in transition, which is precisely how the decisive third goal of the evening was constructed.

Standout Performers

Alzenau's midfield anchor was the quiet architect of the win, breaking up play and recycling possession quickly enough to keep the tempo high. Their centre-forward, meanwhile, held the ball up effectively against two physically strong defenders, allowing runners to join from deep. For Baunatal, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with a couple of sharp stops, while their captain drove the brief second-half revival with relentless running from the middle of the park.

What It Means

The victory gives Bayern Alzenau valuable momentum at home, where their form has become the foundation of their season. Winning 2-1 in a match where they were far from their fluent best is often the mark of a side maturing into a promotion outsider. For KSV Baunatal, the performance offered encouragement — the away side competed for the full 90 minutes and were undone by small details rather than a gulf in class — but the search for consistency on the road continues, and the club will need to convert these narrow defeats into draws and wins if it is to climb away from the lower half of the Hessenliga standings.
