Gareji Sagarejo secured a gritty 2-1 victory over FC Gori in a Georgia Erovnuli Liga 2 fixture played at the Sagarejo Central Stadium on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. A second-half strike from Giorgi Tkeshelashvili proved the difference as the hosts claimed all three points in front of their home supporters.

Match Overview

Both sides entered the match eager to improve their standing in the Erovnuli Liga 2 table, and the opening exchanges were played at a high tempo. Gareji Sagarejo, playing on home soil, looked to impose themselves early, pressing high and forcing FC Gori into a series of hurried clearances. The visitors, known for their compact defensive shape, initially weathered the storm and threatened on the counter-attack. However, the home side's persistence paid off midway through the first half, and although Gori equalised before the break, Gareji regained control after the interval to seal a valuable win.

Key Moments

• 12th minute – Gareji 1-0: Levan Khmaladze rose highest to meet a corner from the right and powered a header past the Gori goalkeeper.
• 34th minute – Gareji 1-1: FC Gori equalised against the run of play when Irakli Sikharulidze latched onto a through ball and slotted calmly into the bottom corner.
• 67th minute – Gareji 2-1: Giorgi Tkeshelashvili picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, took a touch, and unleashed a curling effort into the top corner.

Tactical Story

Gareji lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Khmaladze leading the line and Tkeshelashvili pulling the strings in midfield. Their high press forced Gori into several turnovers during the first half, and the early goal was a just reward for their aggressive approach. FC Gori, set up in a 4-4-2, sat deep and looked to spring Sikharulidze on the break. After the equaliser, the visitors grew in confidence and enjoyed a brief spell of pressure, but Gareji's midfield trio regained control after the restart. The winning goal came from a moment of individual quality rather than a clear-cut chance, highlighting Gareji's ability to produce something special when it mattered most.

Standout Players

Levan Khmaladze was a constant threat in the air, and his opening goal set the tone for the home side. Giorgi Tkeshelashvili dictated the tempo throughout and scored the decisive goal with a superb strike. At the back, Zurab Menteshashvili produced a composed display, dealing with Gori's late aerial barrage. For the visitors, Irakli Sikharulidze was lively and took his goal well, but he lacked support in the final third as Gori struggled to create clear chances after the break.

Season Impact

The win lifts Gareji Sagarejo into a more comfortable position in the Erovnuli Liga 2 standings, keeping their promotion ambitions firmly on track. FC Gori remain in mid-table and will need to improve their away form if they are to challenge for a top-half finish. Gareji next face a tough trip on the road, while Gori return home looking to bounce back quickly from this narrow defeat.
