Aragvi Dusheti came from behind to beat FC Sioni Bolnisi 2-1 on Sunday evening in the Georgia Erovnuli Liga 2, delivering a valuable away victory at the Tamaz Stepania Stadium. Sioni took an early lead, but Aragvi responded with two second-half goals to turn the match around and take all three points.

Match Overview

Sioni Bolnisi started brightly and opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalising on a defensive error and finishing with composure. The home side then sat back, looking to protect their lead and hit on the break. Aragvi dominated possession for long spells but struggled to find a way through a crowded Sioni defence before half-time.

The second half was a different story. Aragvi increased the tempo, pushed their full-backs higher and began to create clear chances. The equaliser arrived in the 58th minute, and the winner came in the 82nd minute after a sustained period of pressure. Sioni’s late attempts to find a response fell short.

Key Moments

• 15th minute: Sioni Bolnisi take the lead with a close-range finish after a misplaced pass.
• 39th minute: Aragvi’s best chance of the first half, a header that hit the crossbar.
• 58th minute: Aragvi equalise with a powerful strike from just inside the penalty area.
• 74th minute: Sioni are forced into a defensive substitution after an injury.
• 82nd minute: Aragvi score the winner, finishing off a quick counter-attack.

Tactical Story

Sioni set up in a deep 4-4-2, looking to absorb pressure and launch fast breaks. It worked for the first hour, but as Aragvi moved the ball faster and switched play from side to side, gaps began to appear. Aragvi’s midfield trio took control after the break, and their overlapping full-backs created constant two-on-one situations out wide.

The winning goal typified Aragvi’s second-half approach: a turnover in midfield, a direct pass forward, and a clinical finish. Sioni’s manager made attacking changes late on, but the team lacked the rhythm to break down a now-confident Aragvi defence.

Standout Players

Aragvi’s central midfielder was the driving force behind the comeback, setting the tempo and providing the assist for the equaliser. Their striker took both goals with maturity, while the centre-back pairing stood firm in the final twenty minutes. For Sioni, the goalkeeper made several fine saves to keep the score close, and their captain worked tirelessly in midfield despite the result.

Season Impact

This 2-1 victory boosts Aragvi Dusheti’s position in the Erovnuli Liga 2 table and strengthens their push for promotion. For Sioni Bolnisi, it is a missed opportunity to climb the standings and a reminder of the fine margins in the division. The result also adds intrigue to their head-to-head record, with Aragvi now having edged a closely fought contest. Both clubs will look to build on this result in their next fixtures.
