Rennes set the tempo with high pressing and quick ball circulation, forcing Strasbourg into errors in their own half. The home side took the lead inside the first 20 minutes and never looked back, adding a second before half-time and a third after the break to complete a comfortable victory.

Key Moments

The opener came after Rennes won the ball high up the pitch, with Arnaud Kalimuendo finishing neatly from the edge of the area. Strasbourg struggled to build momentum and conceded again before the interval when Ludovic Blas converted a low cross at the back post.

The third goal arrived early in the second half, effectively ending any hopes of a Strasbourg comeback. Kalimuendo grabbed his second of the night with a sharp turn and finish inside the box, capping a standout individual performance. Strasbourg improved slightly in possession late on but never seriously threatened the Rennes goal.

Tactical Story

Rennes’ aggressive pressing was the foundation of their win. They denied Strasbourg time on the ball and repeatedly forced turnovers in dangerous areas. The midfield trio worked tirelessly to close gaps, while the front three combined with speed and precision.

Strasbourg attempted to play out from the back but were undone by Rennes’ intensity. When they did break the press, their final pass lacked quality, and the few chances they created were comfortably handled. Rennes managed the game well after scoring the third, keeping possession and limiting the visitors’ counterattacking opportunities.

Standout Players

Arnaud Kalimuendo was the obvious match-winner with two well-taken goals, while Ludovic Blas added creativity and a goal of his own. Rennes’ goalkeeper was rarely tested but commanded his area well, and the defence kept a deserved clean sheet. For Strasbourg, it was a difficult evening, with few players able to impose themselves against Rennes’ pressing game.

What It Means for the Table

The three points strengthen Rennes’ position in the Ligue 1 standings and boost their goal difference, which could prove important later in the season. Strasbourg will need to regroup quickly after a heavy defeat and address the turnovers that allowed Rennes to dominate. The result also highlights Rennes’ home form and their ability to convert pressure into goals when their attacking players are in rhythm.
