Stade Reims U19 edged Strasbourg U19 3-2 in a five-goal thriller on Sunday evening, producing one of the most entertaining matches of the French U19 Youth League weekend. The hosts led, were pegged back, led again and finally sealed the points in a second half that crackled with attacking intent from both sides.

Stade Reims U19 3-2 Strasbourg U19 — Match Overview

Reims started brightly and took the game to their opponents from the first whistle, pressing high and forcing Strasbourg into mistakes in their own half. The reward came with the opening goal, and for a period the home side looked capable of running away with the contest. Strasbourg, however, showed the resilience that has made them a competitive force at this age group, equalising before half-time to change the mood of the game.

The second half was frantic. Reims restored their lead, Strasbourg responded again to make it 2-2, and the decisive third goal arrived amid a spell of sustained pressure from the home side. Both goalkeepers were busy, and the final whistle brought relief more than celebration for the winners.

Key Moments

• Reims take the lead: A high press forced a turnover deep in Strasbourg's half, and the hosts finished the chance at the second attempt.
• Strasbourg equalise: A well-delivered free kick was met with a firm header to level the scores before the break.
• Reims retake the lead: Early in the second half, a driving run from midfield ended with a shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.
• Strasbourg respond again: The visitors levelled at 2-2 after a swift counter-attack caught Reims short at the back.
• The winner: Reims struck the decisive goal with a close-range finish following a goalmouth scramble, sparking celebrations around the ground.

Tactical Story

Reims' success came from their aggressive pressing and willingness to commit bodies forward. Their midfield consistently won second balls, and their wide players repeatedly got in behind Strasbourg's full-backs. The trade-off was vulnerability on the counter, which Strasbourg exploited twice with direct, fast breaks.

Strasbourg's attacking play was sharp and incisive, particularly from set pieces and transitions, but defensive lapses proved costly. Conceding three goals away from home is difficult to overcome at any level, and the coaching staff will focus on their organisation at the back rather than their attacking output.

Standout Performers

Reims' midfield engine was arguably the man of the match, driving his team forward, winning tackles and contributing the second goal. Their striker's hold-up play brought others into the game throughout. Strasbourg's set-piece specialist delivered a constant threat, and their number nine caused problems with intelligent movement in the channels.

Season Impact

Three points at home in a fixture of this quality is a real boost for Stade Reims U19, who can point to both attacking fluency and character in this performance. Strasbourg U19 leave with nothing but will take encouragement from scoring twice away from home and twice fighting back into the match.
