First Half: Nice Take Control

Nice started with purpose, pressing Saint Etienne high and forcing errors in the home side's build-up play. The opening goal arrived inside the first fifteen minutes after a turnover in midfield, finished with a precise low strike into the bottom corner. Saint Etienne tried to respond, but their attacking moves were repeatedly snuffed out by a well-organised Nice back line.

The visitors doubled their lead before the interval with a beautifully worked team goal — a series of quick one-touch passes that carved open the Saint Etienne defence. At 2-0, the away side were firmly in command.

Second Half: Professionalism and a Third Goal

Saint Etienne came out for the second half with renewed energy, pushing more players forward in an attempt to get back into the match. But Nice's defensive discipline and excellent goalkeeping kept them at bay. The third goal, midway through the half, was the killer blow — a clinical counter-attack finished with composure in front of goal.

From there, Nice managed the game expertly, slowing the tempo and using their substitutions to break up Saint Etienne's rhythm. The home side never stopped trying, but they were met with a wall of green and red shirts every time they entered the final third.

Tactical Story

This was a masterclass in pressing and transition from Nice U19. Their midfield unit worked tirelessly to win the ball back high up the pitch, and their front players were consistently able to exploit the spaces left behind Saint Etienne's advancing full-backs. Saint Etienne's young side, by contrast, struggled to cope with the intensity of Nice's press and were guilty of giving the ball away in dangerous areas. It was a lesson in efficiency: Nice had fewer shots but scored three goals, while Saint Etienne's possession rarely translated into clear chances.

Standout Performers

• Nice U19's attacking players: Combined for all three goals and constantly tested the Saint Etienne defence with their movement.
• Nice U19's goalkeeper: Made a crucial save at 2-0 to preserve the clean sheet and kill Saint Etienne's momentum.
• Saint Etienne U19's midfield: Showed flashes of quality but were overwhelmed by the intensity of the opposition press.

What the Result Means

For Nice U19, this 3-0 victory is a significant confidence boost and a clear signal of their title ambitions in the French U19 Youth League. It demonstrates that they can travel to a historic club like Saint Etienne and dominate from start to finish. For Saint Etienne U19, the defeat is a learning experience — the result highlights the gap that still exists between them and the league's leading sides. Both clubs will continue to develop these young players, but on this weekend, the honours belonged emphatically to Nice.
