FC Chartres U19 2-3 Caen U19 — Caen U19 produced a late comeback to beat FC Chartres U19 3-2 in the French U19 Youth League on Sunday 18 October 2026. Chartres led twice in an entertaining contest, but Caen’s persistence and improved second-half control were rewarded with a stoppage-time winner at 21:00.

Match overview

The game was a good example of youth football at its most unpredictable: fast transitions, brave attacking play and defensive lapses that kept both teams in the contest. Chartres started brightly and looked dangerous on the counter-attack, while Caen gradually imposed themselves through possession and patient build-up. The scoreline swung back and forth before Caen found the decisive moment deep into added time.

Caen finished with the better share of possession and created more clear-cut chances, but Chartres’ direct running and willingness to attack space behind the defence made them a constant threat. In the end, Caen’s ability to keep pushing after conceding a second goal proved decisive.

Key moments

• 18 minutes: Chartres took the lead with a quick break, finishing low across the goalkeeper after a neat through ball.
• 39 minutes: Caen equalised with a composed finish from the edge of the box after sustained pressure.
• 55 minutes: Chartres restored their lead from a set piece, scoring with a close-range header.
• 72 minutes: Caen made it 2-2 with a well-timed run into the box and a first-time finish.
• 85 minutes: Chartres’ goalkeeper made a fine double save to keep the score level.
• 90+2 minutes: Caen won it at the death, converting a low cross from the right with a calm finish inside the six-yard box.

Tactical story

Chartres set up to defend in a mid-block and attack quickly when they won possession, using the pace of their wide players to stretch Caen’s back line. That strategy worked well in the first half and again early in the second, when Chartres regained the lead. However, the home side struggled to keep the ball for long periods, which invited pressure and forced them deeper as the match wore on.

Caen’s coaching staff made adjustments after the hour mark, pushing an extra midfielder higher and encouraging the full-backs to overlap. Those changes increased the supply into the box and helped Caen equalise. The winning goal came from a patient move that ended with a low cross, highlighting Caen’s improved patience in the final third. Chartres will rue their inability to clear their lines in the closing moments.

Standout performers

Caen’s attacking midfielder was the game’s most influential player, linking play intelligently and assisting the equaliser with a perfectly weighted pass. The substitute who scored the late winner also made a major impact, bringing fresh energy and intelligent movement in behind. For Chartres, the goalkeeper produced several excellent saves, while their centre-forward led the line with purpose and scored the opening goal.

Season impact

The three points are important for Caen U19 in the French U19 Youth League, reinforcing their ability to win away from home in tight matches. The late winner will do wonders for squad confidence and shows the value of their rotation and substitutions. Chartres U19 can take encouragement from their attacking display, but the defeat is a lesson in game management and concentration until the final whistle.
