Saumur OL 1-4 Stade Briochin: Clinical Away Performance Powers Briochin

Stade Briochin delivered a ruthless away display in the French Championnat National 2, beating Saumur OL 4-1 on September 20, 2026. The visitors were clinical in front of goal and punished Saumur’s defensive mistakes to claim a convincing three points.

Match Overview

Stade Briochin started brightly and took the lead inside the opening ten minutes. Saumur OL responded well and equalised just after the half-hour mark, but that only sparked the visitors back into life. Briochin regained the lead before half-time and then pulled away in the second half with two more goals.

It was a performance of efficiency. Stade Briochin did not dominate possession for long periods, but they were devastating on the break and took their chances with real quality. Saumur, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser, left gaps at the back and were punished.

Key Moments

• 8th minute: Stade Briochin opened the scoring with a neat finish after a quick counter-attack.
• 30th minute: Saumur OL equalised through a well-taken shot from just inside the penalty area.
• 43rd minute: Stade Briochin restored their lead with a header from a corner.
• 65th minute: A third goal arrived after a defensive mix-up, effectively sealing the result.
• 80th minute: Stade Briochin added a fourth with a composed finish on the break.

Tactical Story

Stade Briochin set up to absorb pressure and hit on the counter, and the plan worked perfectly. Their midfielders won the ball back quickly and released the forwards into space. Saumur’s back line struggled with the pace of the attacks and was repeatedly exposed.

Saumur had plenty of the ball but lacked penetration. Their equaliser was the highlight of a bright spell, but after conceding the second goal, they lost their shape and became increasingly vulnerable. Stade Briochin’s clinical edge made the difference.

Standout Performers

Stade Briochin’s forward line was superb, with the front three combining well and finishing with confidence. The midfield anchor broke up play effectively and started several counter-attacks. The goalkeeper made a couple of important saves when the score was still 2-1.

For Saumur, the attacking midfielder was their most creative outlet, but the defensive unit will need to review the goals conceded. The goalkeeper was busy and made several stops to prevent an even heavier defeat.

Table Impact

Stade Briochin’s emphatic win strengthens their position in the Championnat National 2 standings and sends a message to their promotion rivals. Saumur OL remain in need of points and will have to tighten up defensively if they are to climb the table. This was a harsh lesson in taking chances at this level.
