JA Le Poiré-sur-Vie delivered one of their most complete performances of the French Championnat National 2 season, defeating Voltigeurs de Châteaubriant 3-0 on October 4, 2026. A brace from Kylian Mercier and a second-half strike from Enzo Brossard sealed a comfortable home win that underlined the Vendée club's attacking potential and handed Châteaubriant a difficult evening.

Match overview

Le Poiré-sur-Vie and Châteaubriant are both familiar names in the fourth tier, and this all-Western France clash promised a physical, fast-paced contest. The hosts began with intent, pressing Châteaubriant's defenders high and forcing turnovers in midfield. Châteaubriant tried to establish possession through their full-backs, but Le Poiré's front three closed passing lanes aggressively, making it hard for the visitors to play out from the back.

Key moments

The breakthrough came in the 18th minute. Mercier intercepted a loose pass near the edge of the box, took one touch to set himself, and fired low into the corner. The goal settled Le Poiré and they doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when Mercier converted a cross from the left with a neat first-time finish. Châteaubriant's best chance arrived shortly after, but a header from a corner was cleared off the line.

Le Poiré put the result beyond doubt in the 73rd minute. Brossard, who had been dictating tempo from midfield, arrived in the box to meet a cut-back and side-footed home. The home side managed the final 15 minutes professionally, keeping a clean sheet and limiting Châteaubriant to shots from distance.

Tactical story

Le Poiré-sur-Vie lined up in a 4-3-3 that became a 4-2-3-1 when defending, with the wingers tucking in to protect the central midfield. Their pressing traps were well coordinated, especially on the right side, where they repeatedly forced Châteaubriant into hurried clearances. Châteaubriant's 4-4-2 struggled to connect midfield and attack; the front two were often isolated, and the service from wide areas was predictable. Once Le Poiré scored first, the game became ideal for their counter-attacking approach.

Standout players

• Kylian Mercier (Le Poiré-sur-Vie): Two goals, constant movement, and a constant problem for the Châteaubriant defence.
• Enzo Brossard (Le Poiré-sur-Vie): Controlled midfield and added the third goal.
• Le Poiré centre-back pairing: Dominant in the air and composed on the ball.
• Châteaubriant goalkeeper: Made several saves to prevent a heavier defeat.

Season impact

The three points and clean sheet give Le Poiré-sur-Vie a strong platform in the National 2 standings. A 3-0 home win can be worth more than just points: it builds confidence in the squad's attacking patterns and defensive structure. Châteaubriant, meanwhile, will need to review their build-up play and find a way to support their strikers in away matches. The result leaves them searching for consistency as the campaign develops.
