Key moments

• 34th minute – Rouen 1-0: Yanis Barka opened the scoring with a composed finish after a neat exchange on the edge of the box.
• 72nd minute – Rouen 2-0: Alexandre Vardin rose highest to head home from a corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
• Late chance – Bresse Péronnas: The visitors’ best opportunity came from a free-kick, but Rouen’s goalkeeper dealt with it comfortably.

Tactical story

Rouen lined up with a 4-4-2 shape that allowed them to press in pairs and force Bresse Péronnas into long passes. The midfield stayed compact, cutting off central lanes and forcing the visitors wide, where Rouen’s full-backs were able to win the ball back. Going forward, Rouen used quick combinations between the strikers and wide midfielders, creating chances without overcommitting players.

Bresse Péronnas set up in a 5-3-2 system and initially tried to frustrate Rouen by defending deep. That approach kept the score down for half an hour, but once Rouen scored, the visitors had to step higher and the game opened up. The second goal from a set piece was a fitting reward for Rouen’s pressure.

Standout players

Barka was sharp in the final third and his goal set the tone for the afternoon. Vardin’s aerial threat made the difference at the corner, while Rouen’s centre-backs deserve credit for a composed clean sheet. Bresse Péronnas’s goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score respectable, but the team lacked a consistent outlet in attack.

Championnat National table impact

Three points and a clean sheet make this a highly satisfactory result for FC Rouen, who will see it as a platform for their promotion ambitions. Bresse Péronnas 01, meanwhile, leave with a difficult away defeat and will need to improve their attacking output in the coming weeks. In the tightly packed Championnat National standings, home wins of this kind can be the difference between a comfortable season and a relegation battle.
