ES Troyes AC B Edge Chasselay 1-0 in French Championnat National 2

ES Troyes AC B recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Chasselay M.D. Azergues on 17 October 2026, with a second-half goal deciding a closely contested French Championnat National 2 fixture. The reserve side showed patience and composure against a stubborn opponent, eventually finding the breakthrough through a well-worked attacking move.

Chasselay made the game difficult for long periods, defending in numbers and looking to hit on the counter. But Troyes B kept their shape, controlled the tempo for much of the match, and were rewarded for their persistence with a goal that proved enough to take all three points.

Match Overview

The first half was played at a measured pace, with Troyes B enjoying more possession but struggling to find space in the final third. Chasselay sat deep and challenged the home side to break them down, and for 45 minutes the plan worked well. Troyes B moved the ball from side to side but lacked a decisive final pass.

After the break, Troyes B increased the intensity and began to commit more players forward. The breakthrough came shortly after the hour mark, and from there the home side managed the game smartly. Chasselay pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Troyes B defended their box well and limited the visitors to half-chances.

Key Moments

• 21st minute: Troyes B created the first opening, but the effort was blocked inside the area.
• 38th minute: Chasselay’s best chance of the first half came from a counterattack, but the shot went wide.
• 52nd minute: Matteo Oliveira scored the decisive goal, finishing first-time after a neat combination on the edge of the box.
• 71st minute: Chasselay forced a corner and headed just over from the resulting delivery.
• 86th minute: Troyes B goalkeeper Hugo Bernard made a strong save to deny a late equaliser.

Tactical Story

Troyes B’s approach was based on patient possession and quick combinations in wide areas. Their midfielders rotated well, looking to drag Chasselay’s defensive block out of position. The key was not rushing the final ball; instead, Troyes B kept circulating possession until a gap appeared.

Chasselay defended with discipline and tried to spring forward on the break. Their compact shape frustrated Troyes B for long spells, but the home side’s persistence eventually told. Once ahead, Troyes B showed game management beyond their years, slowing the tempo and protecting the central areas.

Standout Players

Matteo Oliveira’s winning goal was the defining moment, and his movement in the box caused problems throughout. Hugo Bernard’s late save was equally important, while the Troyes B centre-back pairing of Ibrahim Traoré and Lucas Moreau dealt confidently with Chasselay’s counterattacks. For Chasselay, goalkeeper Antoine Ravier kept his side in the game with several solid stops.

What It Means

The win gives Troyes B valuable momentum in a competitive National 2 campaign, where every point matters. It also underlines the value of the reserve side as a development pathway, with young players gaining experience in tight, tactical matches. Chasselay will be disappointed to leave empty-handed, but their defensive organisation suggests they will remain difficult to beat this season.
