Vannes 2-2 Ginglin Cesson: Late Equaliser Denies Vannes Home Victory

Vannes and Ginglin Cesson shared the points in a 2-2 Championnat National 2 draw on Saturday, with a late equaliser denying the home side a victory they had twice looked likely to secure. Vannes led on two separate occasions, but Ginglin Cesson’s persistence and counter-attacking threat kept the match alive until the end.

Match overview

Vannes enjoyed the better of the early possession and looked comfortable in build-up, using their midfield to dictate the tempo and create openings in wide areas. Ginglin Cesson, however, defended with discipline and carried a real threat on the break. The pattern continued for much of the match: Vannes pressed for control, while Ginglin waited for chances to exploit space behind the home defence. In the end, both approaches produced goals, and a draw was a fair outcome from a competitive contest.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Vannes took the lead after a patient passing move ended with a shot from the edge of the box that beat the goalkeeper.
• 34th minute: Ginglin Cesson equalised against the run of play, breaking quickly down the left and finishing at the near post.
• 63rd minute: Vannes restored their advantage when a set piece was only half-cleared and the follow-up was driven through a crowded penalty area.
• 86th minute: Ginglin Cesson found a late equaliser after a long ball caused confusion in the Vannes defence, allowing a substitute to finish from close range.

Tactical story

Vannes’ game was built on possession and patient probing, with their full-backs pushing forward to create numerical advantages in wide areas. That worked well for long spells, but it also left space for Ginglin Cesson to counter. The visitors defended deeper than Vannes would have liked and were happy to concede territory in exchange for quick breaks. The late goal came from exactly that approach: a direct pass, a moment of hesitation in the home defence and a calm finish.

Standout performers

Vannes’ attacking midfielder was the game’s most inventive player, constantly finding pockets of space and linking play in the final third. Ginglin Cesson’s substitute made a decisive impact with the late equaliser and gave the home defence problems with direct running. Both goalkeepers were called into action at important moments, particularly during a tense final 15 minutes.

Season impact

For Vannes, this will feel like two points dropped after twice taking the lead, and the result highlights the need to manage games more effectively in the closing stages. Ginglin Cesson, meanwhile, will take confidence from earning a point away from home against a side that controlled long periods. In the Championnat National 2 standings, such results can matter just as much as statement wins.
