US Chauvigny and Stade Lavallois II served up one of the most entertaining matches of the French Championnat National 2 weekend, with the hosts edging a five-goal thriller 3-2 in a contest that swung one way and then the other before finally settling in Chauvigny's favour.

A Five-Goal Classic

From the opening exchanges it was clear this would not be a cagey affair. Chauvigny pressed high and looked to play vertically, while the Lavallois reserve side — technically assured and comfortable in possession — responded with slick combination play through midfield. The result was an open, end-to-end game that kept supporters guessing right up until the final whistle.

The hosts drew first blood, capitalising on a spell of pressure with a well-worked opener. Laval equalised with a move of genuine quality, only for Chauvigny to restore their advantage before half-time. The second period brought two more goals and a tense finish as the visitors pushed for a leveller that never quite arrived.

Key Moments

• Opening goal: Chauvigny's early pressure told when a low delivery was turned in from close range.
• The reply: Lavallois II responded with a patient passing move finished off at the near post to make it 1-1.
• Regaining control: A set-piece situation just before the interval allowed Chauvigny to go in ahead at the break.
• Breathing room: Early in the second half, a swift counter-attack produced the hosts' third and what looked like the decisive goal.
• Nervy finish: Laval pulled one back to set up a tense closing stage, but Chauvigny saw out the remaining minutes with maturity.

Tactical Story

Chauvigny's game plan was built on intensity. Their midfield pressed aggressively, forcing turnovers in the middle third and attacking quickly before the Laval defence could recover its shape. Two of their three goals came from transitions rather than long build-ups, a clear reflection of how they intended to win the match.

Lavallois II, as expected from a reserve side of a professional club, were the more polished outfit in possession. Their rotations in midfield created space between the lines and they regularly worked the ball into dangerous areas. The issue was defensive solidity: too often they were caught with numbers committed forward, and Chauvigny punished them ruthlessly.

Standout Performers

The Chauvigny attack deserves enormous credit for its efficiency — three goals from a relatively modest number of clear chances is the mark of a team that knows how to hurt opponents. The wide players in particular caused persistent problems, stretching the Laval back line and delivering dangerous balls into the box.

For the visitors, the central midfielders were the standout performers, dictating tempo and linking play intelligently. Up front there was plenty of movement and invention, and on another afternoon the two goals they scored would have been enough.

Season Impact

Victories in high-scoring matches do more than add three points — they build belief. Chauvigny will take real encouragement from their ability to score three times against a technically gifted opponent, and from the composure shown in the closing minutes when the pressure was at its highest.

For Stade Lavallois II, the defeat is a lesson in game management. Reserve teams in the Championnat National 2 must balance development with results, and conceding three goals on the road will be a source of frustration for the coaching staff. The individual performances, however, offered plenty of promise.

Looking Ahead

Chauvigny move on with confidence and a healthy goal tally behind them, while Lavallois II will look to tighten up defensively in their next outing. In a division where momentum can shift quickly, both sides will feel this result says something meaningful about the season ahead.
