Genets Anglet 2-1 FC Bassin d’Arcachon: Late Winner Settles Tight National 2 Contest

Genets Anglet edged FC Bassin d’Arcachon 2-1 in the French Championnat National 2 on October 4, 2026, with a late goal deciding a hard-fought contest between two sides separated by little more than local pride and league position.

The match was played at a high tempo, with both teams pressing and counter-pressing in midfield. Genets Anglet’s ability to find a winning moment in the final quarter-hour proved the difference, while FC Bassin d’Arcachon were left frustrated after matching their hosts for long stretches.

Match Overview

Genets Anglet took the initiative early and opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. A patient build-up drew the Arcachon defence out of shape, and a well-timed run into the box was rewarded with a calm finish. The home side continued to press and nearly doubled their lead before the break.

FC Bassin d’Arcachon responded after half-time and equalized in the 51st minute. A quick transition caught Genets Anglet’s back line out of position, and the away forward finished with confidence. The game then became a tactical battle, with both sides wary of committing too many players forward. That was until the 76th minute, when Genets Anglet found the winner from a well-rehearsed set piece.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: Genets Anglet take the lead with a composed finish after a flowing move down the left.
• 51st minute: FC Bassin d’Arcachon equalize on the counter, finishing low past the goalkeeper.
• 76th minute: Genets Anglet score the winner from a corner, with a glancing header finding the far corner.
• 88th minute: Arcachon push forward for a late equalizer, but a last-ditch block preserves the home win.

Tactical Story

Genets Anglet set up with a compact 4-4-2 that looked to control the centre of the pitch. Their midfield duo screened the defence effectively, and the wide players tucked in to prevent Arcachon from playing through the middle. Going forward, they relied on quick combinations and overlapping full-backs.

FC Bassin d’Arcachon used a more direct style, looking to hit their striker early and win second balls. It worked in patches, especially during the opening stages of the second half. However, their set-piece defending let them down for the decisive goal, and they could not create another clear chance in the closing minutes.

Standout Players

Genets Anglet’s playmaker was central to everything good about the home side, dictating the tempo and delivering the corner for the winner. The centre-back who scored the late header was also excellent defensively, winning several important duels. Up front, the striker’s movement created space for others.

For FC Bassin d’Arcachon, the goalscorer was their brightest attacking outlet, while the goalkeeper made two important saves to keep the game level for as long as he did. The away captain worked tirelessly in midfield but could not inspire a late comeback.

Season Impact

The win gives Genets Anglet a valuable three points and local bragging rights, helping them climb the National 2 table. FC Bassin d’Arcachon remain within touching distance of their rivals but will know that narrow away defeats can prove costly in a long season.
