C'Chartres Football 1-4 Versailles 78 II: Visitors Run Riot in Championnat National 2

C'Chartres Football were beaten 1-4 by Versailles 78 II in the French Championnat National 2 on October 4, 2026, as the visitors produced a ruthless attacking performance to claim all three points. The scoreline flattered neither side: Versailles 78 II were sharper in the final third, quicker to loose balls, and clinical when chances arrived.

Chartres had moments of promise, particularly in the opening half, but the game slipped away from them after the break as Versailles 78 II turned a tight contest into a convincing away victory.

Match overview

The home side started brightly and took the lead with a well-worked move, lifting the home crowd. But the goal did not shake Versailles 78 II. The reserve side continued to press high, forcing turnovers in midfield and attacking with numbers. An equaliser before half-time changed the mood, and from there the visitors looked the more likely winners.

In the second half, Chartres struggled to keep possession, and Versailles 78 II punished them with three more goals. The away side's movement between the lines was excellent, and their finishing was composed.

Key moments

• Chartres take the lead: A quick switch of play opened space on the right, and the resulting cross was converted at the near post.
• Versailles equalise: A high press forced a misplaced pass, and the visitors scored with a low finish into the bottom corner.
• Second-half turnaround: Versailles 78 II took the lead early after the restart with a header from a corner.
• Third goal kills the contest: A counterattack ended with a first-time strike from the edge of the box.
• Late fourth: Chartres pushed forward, and Versailles 78 II broke away to complete the scoring in the closing minutes.

Tactical story

Versailles 78 II's 4-2-3-1 shape allowed them to press aggressively while keeping a solid base. Their two holding midfielders screened the defence and recycled possession quickly, and the front four rotated constantly, making it difficult for Chartres to mark. Chartres, meanwhile, left too much space between their midfield and defence, and the visitors exploited it repeatedly. Set pieces also proved costly for the home team.

Standout performers

Versailles 78 II's centre-forward led the line superbly, holding the ball up and bringing others into play, while their attacking midfielder found pockets of space all afternoon. The right winger was a constant threat on the break. For Chartres, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score from becoming even heavier, and the captain tried to drive the team forward, but too many teammates endured an off day.

What the result means

The victory gives Versailles 78 II a major confidence boost and improves their position in the Championnat National 2 standings. For C'Chartres Football, the defeat is a setback that raises questions about their defensive concentration, especially at home. The result will also be noted in the head-to-head record between the clubs, and Chartres will need a quick response in their next fixture to avoid slipping further in the table.
