OLS Oulu claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over KPV in the Finnish Ykkonen on Sunday evening, moving up the early-season standings with a disciplined performance at their home ground. The result keeps OLS in touch with the promotion pack, while KPV was left to rue missed opportunities after a spirited second-half fightback.

First‑half dominance rewarded

OLS controlled much of the opening 45 minutes, pressing high and forcing turnovers in midfield. The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when a swift counter‑attack ended with a low cross from the right that was turned in by striker Eino Mäkelä for his fourth goal of the season. OLS doubled their lead just before the half‑hour mark: a corner kick was punched clear only as far as Jussi Korkeamäki, whose volley from the edge of the box deflected past the helpless KPV goalkeeper.

KPV fight back but fall short

KPV emerged from the interval with renewed energy. Coach Mikko Huttunen introduced two attacking substitutes, and the move paid off almost immediately. In the 51st minute, a long ball over the top was latched onto by Antti Rautiainen, who slotted calmly under the advancing OLS keeper to make it 2-1. The visitors pushed for an equaliser, creating two clear chances through set‑pieces, but OLS’s central defence – led by captain Mikko Lehtonen – held firm. The final whistle confirmed a valuable three points for the home side.
